This player you are describing exists:

The player that is being discussed in this thread bears little resemblance to that player and gives you 6 points a game since the all star break, horrible defense, and average rebounding - notwithstanding his off the court issues.

It's nice that he'll block the occasional shot, but really who cares? It's like arguing that Barkley was a good defender because he got you a few steals a game. He wasn't, and neither was or is Griffin.

    No way.

The best predictor of the future is the past. I hope we have learned from our mistakes.

No. Eddie Griffin was horrible on post defense. It seemed like every power forward abused him down low. He hasn't improved since he entered the league, and he's had plenty of minutes to prove himself. He shoots an Iverson-like 39% from the field, except he's a "power" forward.

And this wasn't the worst year he's ever had. He's hitting his career averages.

Wow!!! I think I might have puked if you said that a few years ago but must agree. I don't want EG back. He screwed our team once. I don't want to give him the oppertunity to do it again. We have a pretty good thing going with what we have. NO HEAD CASES ALLOWED!!!!With CD on his streak I think we will find other role players that aren't psycho. Damn...I also would love to have Kelvin back:( . Not gonna happen tho.

I say yes. Depends on the contract of course... and the conversation. It would be nice to reap something for having lost out on Richard Jefferson, Teyshaun Prince and Tony Parker in order to select Eddie Griffin.

I would have agreed with you before Howard's injury, but I have been amazed at what a keystone in the offense Howard's midrange game has been revealed to be. I think the only way Cato or a guy with similar skill set to Cato could play PF for the Rockets is if other things changed as well.

Never consider sunk costs when you are asked to make a decision here and now.

Sam Fisher's posts are spot on.

Griffin is a poor man's Robert Horry, but without any semblance of clutch-ness.

Why? Mutumbo has done a better job than anything Cato ever could do.

And Cato at PF was good for defense, but he could not shoot worth a lick. Without Francis feeding alley oops, then Cato will never score a basket.

Other than Howard, we don't have anybody better and certainly not younger and probably more affordable. Those sunk costs are stuck in my craw!

Well, let's look at it this way. Let's say that EG comes back and can actually ball (and all indications show that he can't), does that mean we miraculously got our 3 1st rounders back? No it doesn't. Let's say he does come back and play well, we only only get (an opinion here) no more than 2/2/1 over the sucky version of himself. So, is that worth it?

And even if he can still play a little and is willing to sign, say.. the minimum, how does that affect the rest of the team? First of all, he's a risk and call go back to the pipe for all we know. Secondy, how do you justify playing somebody over other players who didn't shoot their gfs? As much as Spoon, Bowen and Padge suck, they played hard for us this year. Thirdly, how will it affect our chemistry?

Regardless, the decision made should be based on whether he can ball, those 3 1st rounders you just have to gulp and swallow it down.

Well, of course. I thought he could ball though? I guess he'll never be the EG we thought he would be when we overpaid for him.

His season averages are 22 minutes per game, 7.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 1.7 blocks per game.

Last game he had 10pts (on 5-9 shooting) 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in 23 minutes. Looks like his playing time is going up!

He's still only 23 years old so he's got 10 years ahead of him while Howard and Weatherspoon are in their waning years.

BTW, Howards numbers this year are 27 MPG, 9.6 PPG, 5.7 RPG and .8 BPG. How do their salaries compare?

The Rockets did Eddie a favor by jettisoning him. Further coddling would have done nothing to send him a positive message. We deserve the fruits of his labor.

Part of the difference in Juwan and Eddie is efficiancy. Juwan is a more efficient scorer and has a much better mid range jump shot than Eddies. Not even close. On top of that Juwan did exactly what the coach asked him to do and did not get out of position defensively like Eddie did when he was in Houston. I think those are things that helped Yao Ming a lot and also helped the rest of the team.

I would still take a chance on Eddie if the price was right but only if I could not get someone else and only if the price was much less than the MLE.

That many blocks, inside presence when needed, doesnt take to many shots, has a little range?

As long as we revoke his gun license I'm all for it. He only plays 21 minutes and is that productive....

We dont need him to be a scoring machine people.... he just needs to rebound and block shots....

If I were 6' 11" I'd be the perfect PF for the Rockets. Oh, and 23 YO... :D
