I'm looking into the brand Land Rover, I have never heard anyone say good or bad things about them.. anyone have info to pass along??
I had a friend that owned one............he said it was the worst purchase of his life. In and out of the shop all the time. I've also heard from a few other people that say they're great for the first 50K miles or so, after that, they become an expensive hunk of junk.
my brother loved his...but couldn't afford the maintenance...became too much of a pain in the ass over time.
If you are actually looking to drive off road, they're great. My uncle owns a Land Rover Discovery and we have taken it everywhere in the winter, through lots of snow, on rough terrain...no problems.
Here's a hint for you..... Land Rover parts shares with......FORD. So does Jaguar, Mazda, and the obvous suspects (Linc and Merc)Just look at Ford's main website......you'll see there real line-up....of automakers that is. Maybe this is why so many Land Rovers are having trouble, don't you think? After all, FORD equals Found On Roadside Dead I'vesee some LR's this way lately too.... My best bet....I own an Infi FX45....whose parent is Nissan. Never ever had trouble with them or Toyota/Lexus. And if your looking for off-raod, Toyota is productioning the FJ Cruiser concept for 2006. That sucker should handle your thirst for dirt.
I guess your lucky then.....Most people I know havent faired so well with Ford. In fact, one of my friends despised his problematic Mustang, which he bought new, so much, he set it up to be stolen, so he could use the insurance pay-off to land him a new whip. He's got a Celica now. Honestly, the brand scares me so much, If I ever won a FORD GT (worth $100,000+) I would turn around and immediately sell the thing and use the money to buy me a vehicle from another automaker. After all, that is alot of money that could buy me almost any car of my dreams that is not a Ford. And you can quote me on this......
A land rover will go over and through anything. I've owned a few off road vehicles and if I was ever going to own another i'd be a LR. Talk to the sales guys and ask to go to one of the drivers events they hold out in sealy before you buy one. You'll be sold. Expect high maintinance if you buy one though. Buy a 1 or 2 year old model from a soccer mom and you should be able to get a great deal.
Just because ford is the parent company doesnt mean they are built with the same standards as their entry level stuff. They do part share some across the lower levels of their luxury lines but im not aware of using them using ford parts. If anything Ford purchasing them should have improved their reliability since it was really bad to begin with. They did a good job of reviving Juaguar a while back when there cars were notorious for being mechanical headaches. The also did a good job of updating the Volvo line.
I see a lot of sorority girls driving land rovers.. maybe you could just get a sorority girl that already has one.
Land Rovers are repeatedly at the bottom end of reliability ratings year after year. They suck and they're overpriced.
haha thats what I did. My gf has a 2004 discovery, drives very nicely. The only problem I find is that the seat does not go back far enough to drive comfortably (I'm about 6'1").
Ditto. Stick with the Infiniti or Lexus versions. The only thing that might be even worse (if that is possible) is a Hummer, LOL.
land rovers don't have a good reputation for reliability. also, they aren't even TRUCKS and they are soccer momish. i have a 1989 toyota landcruiser and it's a beast. i have had no problems with i and it handles the rough terrain of the brooklyn-queens expressway with utter aplomb.
Actually, you would be right! Hummers are probably even worse than Land Rovers. If you're going for the name, at least get one with some quality behind it.
Thanks for the help guys, I dont really care about reliability I really only keep cars for around 2 years... Land Rover looks to have done a major upgrade on their line of SUVs, they dont make the Discovery any longer and thier new LR3 won SUV of the year from Motor Trend this year... I may go drive one this weekend and see how they ride.. Thanks for the input..
What's wrong with Hummers? I am seriously considering purchasing an H2, judging solely on looks and intimidation factor. I do not know the first thing about them when it comes to their actual quality. Enlighten me
