To ask the question in a different way,

If you were going to see a movie, and you didn't know anything about them, but you knew Denzel was in one, Freeman was in another, and Jackson was in another, which would you choose to see?

I'd choose the movie with Morgan Freeman every time.

I like all three actors, but Freeman makes fewer poor quality movies than the other two, IMO.

I mean, I've seen a couple bad Denzel movies, and I've seen a couple bad Samuel L. Jackson movies, but I don't recall any bad Morgan Freeman movies (not that I'm denying that they may be out there). I've also seen Denzel and Jackson give less than stellar performances, but rarely see Freeman do anything less than quality work.

Dreamer, when has Denzel done a bad movie or put in a poor performance? I've obviously never seen that movie.
I have seen some bad Samuel Jackson movies, and I haven't really seen that many Morgan Freeman movies.
If I was to pick just based on the star I would go with Denzel (although I would probably end up seeing all three eventually).

    Richard Pryor?

    I like Fishburne.

    Jackson entertains me.

I could care less about the other two choices.

I'd say Freeman is the best actor of the 3, but I think the most entertaining actor is Samuel L. Jackson.

By the way, Deep Impact was a HORRIBLE movie, so even the best actors have their bad movies.

That movie "Fallen" was pretty bad. And, Denzel didn't exactly give his best performance in it either.

I didn't see "The Bone Collector", but there's a reason I didn't... it didn't look good. Also, with a user rating (at Yahoo) of 3.4 out of 5.0, it doesn't have the popular opinion backing it either.

I also didn't see "He Got Game".... (3.6/5.0)

    "The Seige" 2.1/5.0

    How was "The Preacher's Wife"?

"Virtuosity", one of the worst movies I've ever went to a theater to see.

I'm not trying to dog Denzel. He's one of my favorite actors. I just would put Morgan Freeman a level above him.

I love Denzel. Actually, if you want probably his most underrated performance, try "Mo Betta Blues." That is a wonderful performance.

Morgan Freeman will always get a vote because he was on Sesame Street and ANYONE on the Street is cool.

I like Samuel L. Jackson because he is ALWAYS cool no matter what he is in.

Lawrence Fishburne is intense and that makes him great.

Will Smith is one African American actor I almost never miss in a film.

Ice Cube, though he has had some forgettable roles, is killer most times.

Of the group, I'd have to take Freeman for the best actor. He wins it on age alone, but his performances in the Shawshank Redemption and Driving Miss Daisy were terrific.

Denzel gets my vote for movies I'd see just because he's in it. He is type cast to a degree but a lot of that has to do with the type of presence he carries on screen. Does he rant a lot? Yup, but few can do it as well as him. His performances in Malcom X, Mo Betta Blues, Philadelphia and the Hurricane are legendary.

Fishburne and Jackson are the coolest of the bunch and always worth seeing in a film, but, IMO, haven't developed into the GREAT actors the others have. They are good performers and make interesting characters but they haven't found that one singular role that has defined them as ACTORS rather than being defined by their character in the film.

You're missing some good movies Dreamer. I liked The Bone Collector and He Got Game. The Preacher's Wife and The Siege were also movies worth watching once.

Freeman out of the three listed.

But I really like Ving Rhames and Fishbourne also. Both more than Freeman.
If you want a good movie with Don Cheadle and Ving Rhames pick up Out Of Sight. It also has George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, but the parts of Cheadle and Rhames make the movie.

All three are good actors, but I am a big Denzel fan. The guy can just flat out act plain and simple. Malcolm X was simply an incredible performance, Hurricane was excellent, He Got Game was very good, I havent gotten a chance to see Remember the Titans but have heard it is excellent as well.
