Crisco -- don't roll your computer eyes at me. I'm serious here. I was only doing a play on the phrase "chick flick" because so many men claim not to "get" certain movies targeted at women. I was wondering if this was a reverse case -- that I didn't get a film that seemed to be aimed at men. I would love to hear some guys explain why they love this film. No judgement. Just curious. As far as you thinking your wife is a girl...well, that's something you'll have to figure out on your own. ------------------
Just trying to get a response from you - and it worked! It's been a while since I've seen it, so I can't really pinpoint much that I liked about it. I like Norton's narrations. I didn't see that plot twist at the end coming(I usually see that kind of stuff coming, but I didn't this time), no unnecessary long dragging scenes, the sheer lunacy of it all. again, it's been a while. I'm a guy and I HATED Fight Club. In fact, that whole group of guy flicks (Lock, Stock and whatever, Pulp Fiction, Snatch, etc, etc) is beyond me. I never got any of them. I couldn't even bear to make it halfway through Pulp Fiction and everybody gives me **** for it, but I just hated the damn thing. Of that 99 list, only American Beauty, Three Kings and the Sixth Sense made for 2+ hours worth of interest for me. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.

The only reason I saw Fight Club was b/c Edward Norton was in it and he's one of my favorite actors. Loved him in Primal Fear and American History X. Speaking of American History X, where the hell is it on your '98 list? That would be my Number 1. Rushmore's pretty good but I thought the Big Lebowski was better. I was very dissapointed with the 6th sense, I remember before I saw it all I heard was how good of a movie it was. I guess I didn't get the big draw to the movie. Maybe it's just because seeing kid's play starring roles in movies just doesn't grab my attention. ------------------
Fight Club is one of my favorite movies and I don't know why so many people are so turned off simply because it's violent. IMO, those people are missing the point. Fight Club rocks! I can't understand how people didn't like it, unless they were maybe turned off by the violence. Even forgetting the stuff in the movie that might speak only to guys, there's alot of psychological aspects that are great. From the "what you own ends up owning you" message to the whole "rebellion against hegemonic society" angle to the split personality that is Tyler Durden. You made me laugh Crisco. I loved Pulp Fiction AND Fight Club, but I can certainly understand why some would be turned off by them. Especially Jeff. Still Jeff, you have to admit....neither were exactly "cookie cutter" movies. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
I hate to ramble on about Fight Club, but I just have to. You're really doing yourself an injustice if you've seen the movie once and decided that you don't care for it. I can see how the aforementioned violence could hinder one from praising this movie, however. I, on the other hand, enjoy looking beyond the poetic fight scenes while soaking up the twisted relationship with Marla, benevolent Bob and his b**** t***, the inner quarrels with Tyler, and the destruction of corporate America although I don't necessarily agree with or condone the actions of Project Mayhem. The movie is just so accurate in the portrayal of present-day capitalism and how a lot of people would like to deal with it, but don't have the balls to do so. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Frank Black (edited January 22, 2001).]
No question about it. I don't think they were necessarily BAD movies. I just don't get them and the violence really didn't bother me at all. I just found the concept that he was hitting and stabbing himself the whole movie to be utterly ridiculous. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
