Just wanted to start up a discussion on BioWare's new game coming out on thursday. So far its recieved the 2nd highest rating of all time from IGN...9.9/10 (only behind mario 64 10/10) http://xbox.ign.com/articles/602/602787p1.html
Actually, the two Zeldas from the N64 got a 10 and a 9.9 as well, and that's just off the top of my head, so I don't know if this is the 2nd highest ever. Should be good though.
Yeah, I was shocked to see that 9.9 from IGN. I've been reading IGN since the very first it got started. They're the place I always go to for reviews because I know their style of rating the games. Looking at just Xbox, for it to beat out Halo/Halo 2 and the Splinter Cells - that say a lot.
i've been waiting for jade empire for what seems like a long time now. it shouldn't be a surprise how high the score is considering who made it and how long they worked. it looks awesome hopefully i can get it over the weekend.
Like I've said before, I've been leaning away from IGN scores for a while now, although I guess the actual reviews themselves aren't too bad. Just remembered GTA:SA got a 9.9, which I don't think it quite deserved. Some other overrated games by IGN I can think of include Halo 2 (9.8), Fable (9.3), and DOA:Xtreme Volleyball (9.2). So while this game is most likely great, it may not quite be at the level of a 9.9 game. Also, I read from other reviewers that they haven't quite gotten that "9.9" type feel from the game. One of them mentioned that the game wasn't quite as good as KOTOR in some aspects, so if you liked KOTOR, you might have some beefs with the game I guess. All that said, this is most likely a great game, maybe the best RPG on the Xbox and one of the best game available for it. Besides OXM, which already gave it a 9.4, it got a 9.5 from Gameinformer, and a 5/5 from Gamespy (although from the same guy who gave Doom 3 Xbox a 5/5). I assume most reviews will be in 5's or 9's. In a way, this game kind of feels like a RE4 or GoW, IMO.

Hehe...8.4 from Gamespot. Figured that would happen, although I did not expect that big of a dropoff. Makes me a little more worried about the game in some ways. Haven't had a chance to read their review though. http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/rpg/jadeempire/review.html
gamespot has shafted so many games lately... metal gear 3, splinter cell chaos theory, gran turismo 4, devil may cry 3, doom 3 have all gotten below 9's....
gosh, that crappy rpg on the gamecube baiten something and paper mario got better scores than Jade Empire... im starting to trust ign more even though their scores are generally higher. i mean come on game spot gave tony hawk 3 a 10/10... highest ever rated. TONY HAWK. lame
Except for maybe MGS3, I could understand why GS rated those games below 9 (especially Doom 3...ugh). Those games seemed to not bring anything really new to the table for the most part, or had some small issues. There are great games, but I like my 9+ games to be games that are some of the best games available. In other words, I don't like seeing a site giving out 2-3 9's a week. Speaking of which, I just saw IGN gave MC3: DUB a 9.2. Not necessarily saying it doesn't deserve that, but if I bought every game IGN gave a 9+ to, I'd be broke quick. I'd proabably still be broke quick with GS, but at least it would be a little longer. As for Baiten Kaitos, I actually thought it looked pretty cool and have heard mixed reviews. I would have probably really liked it, and apparently GS liked it as well. Far from crappy, IMO (from what I could tell). As for Paper Mario, that's another GC RPG that I liked a little bit. It seems different and a lot more fun than most games. Additionally, I forget the whole process GS puts into their reviews, but chances are that a console's library comes into effect when rating a game. BK and PM were probably some of the best RPG type games on the GC (probably Zelda and a few others may be better, but only Zelda would be that much better possibly). On the other hand, with KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Fable, Morrowind, Jade Empire, etc., it is pretty hard to say Jade Empire does everything better than all those other games. I've already read from some that KOTOR offers more in some areas that Jade Empire. The TH rating was a mistake, although it was a while back, and it seems like GS has gotten a lot harder since then. IGN, on the other hand, hasn't quite done the same. I don't even know why I'm bothering to defend one review site over another. To be honest, while I do have some preferences, I'm starting to just lump them all together now. In fact, I seem to be relying a lot more on other people's personal experiences lately instead of reviews. Also, I seem to have gotten this bad attitude towards Jade Empire, which I regret. That's really not my intent; despite my unfavorable preferences when it comes to several things Xbox-related, I love Bioware. Jade Empire is one of those great titles from Bioware that has their stamp of quality on it, which is enough to make it a good game in my mind.
Gamespot is infinitely more credible than IGN is. IGN suffers from the same problem that Gamepro magazine does...it's like they're excited just because they're playing a video game.
IGN has always sucked for scores and reviews. I definitely give gamespot the edge in both categories, though I can see why some fanboys might be upset that the game they're pining for didn't get perfect 10s. I personally ignore the numbers unless I have a really good feel for the reviewer's taste in games. The reviews themselves are where it's at if you want a feel for the game w/o renting. The good reviews anyway. And 8.4 isn't a bad score imo.
The demo is in x-box, but I haven't popped in yet as have been on road. But will soon. Want to buy. Desperately hoping that it is good.
it is said that the demo was released way to soon and is nothing like the final product... just a warning... i saw chronicles of riddick for xbox for $9.99 at blockbuster used... thinking about picking it up... what do you guys think?
I think it would be worth 10. Its better than the new games that are released at 20 dollar bargain prices.
