My old PC is on it's last leg I believe, bought it in 1998. It does a lot of the flick scrren then reboots. Anyway, I am looking to get a new one. I need a fairly good one, but do not need the best. I am thinking the following specs: P4 3.2-3.6 MHZ cpu (also think about Athlon, are they better?) 1G memory (2dimm) 160+ HD 128 MB video do not really need any software (I get those cheap from the university) Monitor optional (maybe 19" lcd) I have looked at Dell, Gateway, Micron, CDW. Do you guys know any good deals out there? or some other brands worth looking at? Thanks Mark
Just buy the parts from www.newegg.com, and build the PC exactly like you want it. It's a lot like those the block game when you are a kid, you can't put a square block through a round hole.
You missed a good bargain from Dell a week ago. It had all you listed (80g hd, 17 lcd) for one grand. Financial quarter is ending soon, you picked the right time to search.
I have thought about building it, the only problem is what happens if problem do occur (remember LIL Pun)?
AMDs' are faster than Intel, however if you don't play much games, it doesn't really mater. techbargains is a good site to find some deals. Sometimes they will have 35% - 40% off coupons for Dell machines. The machine you want should cost less than $1000.
Just bought a a Dell from techbargains.com. Dimension 4700. 3.4 mhz cpu 160 gb hd 128 mb video card 1 gb ram 19" flat panel monitor 16 X dual layer dvd +/-rw drive 24 bit sound blaster sound card after tax it is 1270. free shipping pretty good deal I think Thanks again for all the info provided.
Nice job! Seems like you were a bit over your budget, but for all of the "upgrades" given, it could have easily cost you another $500.
