Seems my mom opened some file and now I'm stuck with some virus. I have no control over shortcuts, nor do any of the usual programs start up upon the loading of the computer. There is one error message saying: Windows cannot find winsvrc.exe. PLEASE HELP! ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
That's the Navidad virus... there is a fix that involves editing the registry. BE VERY CAREFUL MESSING WITH YOUR REGISTRY! Here's one way to remove it : http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.navidad.html Here's another way : http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/navidad.shtml And get a couple of freakin' antivirus software... one that runs in the background while you work and checks emails, too!! ------------------ "I personally don't think Jordan would have enjoyed playing with himself." -- JeffB lets us all know that Popeye and Clutch aren't the only ones with inside sources... I use McAfee... I love it. Updates are scheduled automatically and email scans as well...You get an online version or buy it off the shelf.. I prefer the store bought version. Just thought I'd stick in a plug for one of my favorite software packages --- Since you are now considering virus software -- I'd really reccomend Norton Utilities. The virus software is really good, and like others have mentioned, they provide constant updates which you download for free. It also has with several other useful programs, including Clean Sweep (Uninstalls programs and cleans up your computer) and System Check (Fixes a lot of problems -- including ones you didn't know you had. Stops a lot of crashes and errors). It will also do maintenance, clean your registry, update your drivers, and defragment your hard drive. One useful tool for the situation you are in -- it does come with a set of 3.5" floppies which can be used to fix things when you really get into trouble. You can boot up off of these disks, and run the virus software and system repair tools even if a virus or other problem keeps you from running it through Windows. ------------------ Stay Cool...
