I'm from Sam's home town. Seen him around a few times, have his autograph. He is still a Legend in Lebanon county. The only 7 footer we have ever had in town. Great guy, not afraid to talk to people. He was like the all time leading scorer in the L-L league's history. I wished he could have done better, but none the less, he is on this list, and with good reason.
damn thats rough for a mid 2nd round pick who had a career ending nerve disease...why do you say that about him?
Agreed, but I can't really blame the Blazers for picking him over Jordan in '84. Bowie wasn't a terrible player , but a huge disappointment regardless.
Stanley Roberts. Didn't he start ahead of Shaq at LSU? He either ate or smoked his way out of the NBA.
I see what you mean ... for example, Christian Laettner was a great college player as well. Wait, that doesn't support what you are saying, does it? Well then, what is your point?
I don't understand this either. If anything, MacCullogh was something of a success story. An unathletic guy who took advantage of his skills to become a decent starting center in the league. Now that's just silly. Rodman never "blew" his opportunity in the NBA, and was a hard worker on the court, and it paid off. The Bulls would not have won ANY of their final three titles without Rodman (or a comparable PF/C who knew his role). Jordan also gambled. No, he was a very good college player. He didn't put up incredible numbers (quite comparable to Joe Forte's numbers at UNC), and Sam Bowie was a pretty darn good college player himself. A lot of people thought that he'd rebound from his injuries and have a great NBA career.
good point man,but at the end no one wanted him, now no one will touch himnot just cuz he's old. i am not doubting he helpedthe bulls i just think the sideshow is a disgrace,as if he was taken it for granted. compared to dumars, dream, drexler thats why i pu thim there, artest may be there to if he;s not careful
guys! the all time winner... or at least winner for the 90's in my mind. Guy who everyone claimed had the most talent ever derrick coleman
I'm automatically excluding anyone who was in the playoff rotation of a championship team. Bryant Reeves Shawn Kemp Roy Tarpley Isiah Rider Joe Barry Carroll John Lucas Michael Ray Richardson Derrick Coleman Raefer Alston Michael Olowakandi Oliver Miller 80% of the 2001 NBA draft class Kermit Washington never was really more than a good role player, but it's hard to call him a disappointment since he wasn't supposed to even make it in the league. You could make a case for Penny Hardaway. Does Len Bias count? Pretty sad. Evan
No I believe it was Drexler who got hugged out of the play and Barkely had a chance to go get him but just was stunned and slow reaction or was it the other way around my memory seems to have tried to remove that horrible feeling when the shot dropped. I agree the lineup for the jazz would be my all disgrace team.
C- Roy Tarpley - cocaine is bad. F- Shawn Kemp - cocaine and all you can eat buffets are bad. F- Eddie Griffin - cocaine is bad. G- J.R. Rider - was he on coke too? G- Vernon Maxwell - regardless of the fact he was a key contributor to two championship teams. Derrick Coleman was a huge disappointment too because I still feel there was absolutely no reason he shouldn't have been the most dominant power forward of his day. Ron Artest may be topping these kind of lists soon. All of that talent and the guy can't keep his head on straight.
actually one championship he was not on the 95 playoff roster he was given a leave in February or March. So he basically was a distraction the whole 94 95 campagin.
