I know food threads get started a lot around here, and this same type of thread probably comes up once a month at least, but I believe I just crafted up the best tasting "nachos" I've ever had. Restaurant quality. So, I got home from school, hungry and craving nachos...only to find that we didn't have any cheese. So I started dumping some things in a pan, and frying them together. Needless to say, it turned out awesome! I covered some steak fries in it, and it filled me up. I still knid of want to eat some chips with the sauce, but don't know if I can manage. The only bad thing is that it is a rather thing sauce. A panfull almost didn't cover my large plate of fries. Anyways, what kinds of foods have you invented? I'm in heaven...
I'm sure I haven't been the first to think of these foods, but I thought of them completely on my own without any idea of foods that I saw or ate previously. Tortilla with melted cheese and barbecue sauce. Tortilla is rolled up...mmmm so tasty. Mexican Pizza - Put tomato sauce, then mozzarella cheese on a tortilla, then bake until tortilla is crispy and cheese is melted. Tortilla nachos - just something I made when I ran out of nachos and got pissed off. Tear pieces of tortilla into nacho shapes, then bake until they are crispy and hard. Taste just like nachos. I like tortillas. Oh and by the way, this food is not invented but its so damn good I just have to pass it on: Clam Dip - Take two cans (small cans) of clams and dump into a bowl. Then put a stick of cream cheese (philadelphia is the best) into the same bowl and chop/stir/beat until mixture is creamy and fully mixed together. Let sit in the fridge for about 20-30 minutes, then enjoy with Ruffles.
It's an egg sandwich...my 17 year old makes it for himself...Sometimes he'll throw lime and tabasco in it. That's about the time I leave the room.
Peanut butter pancakes. I didn't invent it, but I'd like to try it. It's a combination of two of my favorite foods. A peanut butter batter pancake mix, which comprises: (a) a combination of peanut ingredients comprising peanut flour, peanut butter, peanut chunks, peanut oil and peanut extract oil and (b) a flour-based pancake mixture.
Don't know what to call it, but...... Take a filet of monkfish, cover it with crushed fresh sage and black pepper, wrap it in prosciutto, and saute in olive oil with garlic. Damn tasty!
Being Chinese and having lived in SE Asia and growing up in Texas I do a lot of East / West Combos since I've usually got a mix of Asian, Mexican and Italian condiments in my kitchen. Here's some things that I've found work pretty well. Fried rice con salsa picante. Just make a simple egg fried rice and then add salsa at the end. Scrambled eggs with queso and pico de gayo on roti praratha. Scrambled eggs with cheese and spicy Mexican salad or Salsa with Indian pancakes. Wasabi potato salad. Just get some wasabi powder and mix it up with potato salad. Mu Shu tortillas. Flour tortillas make a great substitute for mu shu pancakes and are great with pork and pickled vegatables along with roast duck and plum sauce. Tsong-You Tortillas. An invention of my mom's using tortillas to make the Chinese green onion pancakes. Sambal Blacang Fish sticks. Bake or pan fry fish sticks with Malaysian hot shrimp paste. Livens up even the blandest fish stick. Soy sauce tuna salad. Instead of mayonaise use soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar and black pepper in tuna salad.
my two favorites (I've posted them before) campbell's cream of chicken soup made according to directions. Sit down with a bowl and a bag of cheetos. Throw a few on top and eat each one with a spoonfull of soup. Don't throw in too many at a time--they're best when they are still somewhat crunchy. My other favorite grosses people out until they try it (unless they just hate olives). Take a few slices of bread and arrange green olives or green olive slices on the bread such that you would get olive and bread with every bite. Cover this with american cheese and place in the broiler. Broil until the cheese, melts, then starts to bubble, then turns mostly brown, and then some small parts of it are almost black. eat and enjoy.....it's almost like pizza.
Cans o' tuna Taters Cook taters Lightly pan fry tuna Mash together Shape into whatever shape Put breading on 'em Bake or fry 'em. Replace tuna with ground beef. Poor man's cutlets.
Hot Sausage. Slice up some pork sausage links into thin slices. chop up green onion, jalapeno. cook together. cook with olive oil and add roasted sesame seeds and sugar. serve with rice and top the entree off with garlic chili pepper sauce.
I'm about to try ramen with hot and spicy cheese crunchies sprinkled over the top. Throw some sriracha on that and I'll be sweating in no time.
Pecans Jubilee cook up some Italian sausage sautee some onion, garlic, bell pepper, cracked black pepper, and mushrooms in the sausage grease add chopped pecans (walnuts are good, also)and warm the pecans with the onion mixture mix in some parmesean cheese and the pasta of your choice ...and I'm not sure if this is "inventing" food, but I came up with a "hot sandwich" which is basically a sandwich made with every hot item in the kitchen I can find. I like using pastrami, pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, hot sauce, and cracked black pepper...put a few of those hot pringles in the sandwich for a little extra crunch...

I did not invent it, but a college girlfriend's eccentric mom made a concoction I still enjoy: "Breakfast Stuffed French bread" Ingredients: One of those "french loafs" in the dairy case 4 eggs One package hot owens ground sausage (use any you like) 1/2 yellow onion chopped fine 1 cup cheddar cheese ( my grown - 24 year old son liked me to use more) 4 to 6 teaspoons of salsa for flavor 2 teaspoons of bacon grease if you have it 1 teaspoon minced garlic The procedure: Brown the ground sausage in non stick pan and drain well Place chopped onion in non stick pan with the bacon grease and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic for flavor- carmelize the onion until slightly tender Mix the eggs with 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream Place sausage in non stick pan Mix in eggs in the pan with sausage-medium heat to low medium-mixing and stiring to prevent scorching When the eggs are medium firm, remove from heat Unroll the french bread on cookie sheet place the egg sausage mixture evenly over the bread Put the cheese over the mix-sprinkle black pepper as you like Roll the bread back up Bake 28 minutes at 350 degrees or until bread golden brown Remove from oven and place on rack 5 minutes to cool Slice in 2" slices -sever with coffee day or nite I serve this with sliced fruit - apple ornages and grapes make a nice touch This is an easy quick meal that is heart attack on a plate This is great comfort food my son still likes
