The rule is if you're not on an NBA roster (or played for a team that year, or something like that) at the deadline date, you can be on the playoff roster (therfore Oaktree could have been on ours - had he not been a disaster). Not sure if Big Dog qualifies though.

Anyway, I don't see this marriage working out any better than the Oaktree sighting last year here unless the Big Dog has undergone a miraculous conversion.

Is this a paid try-out for next year? IIRC, Big Dog has not played a game so far this year, and for the Spurs to sign a guy that might disrupt the team chemistry, even with Duncan out, doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

I guess they know what they are doing ... I anticipate what the Spurs organization says about this late signing.

I am pretty sure they are signing him just so he can be an extra help for the rest of the season. They won't have him on the playoff roster, even if they could. I wish the Rockets had done this and given one at least of our stars somet time off so we can have them healthy in the playoffs (although that won't happen even if we want it to)

I thought that he was injured and couldn't play. Pop will lose a lot more hair after watching Glenn Robinson playing "defense".

i doubt he will see alot of playing time. He is not good anymore, and he never knew how to play defense. The spurs are a very solid team.

I suspect he faked a season-long injury because he and Jim O'Brien didn't see eye to eye. Kind of pathetic.

Most likely the case ... so why would the Spurs want to sign a guy like that?

SA Express leaves the door open for him being on the playoff roster. Of course, they also indicate he's completely out of shape.

That, coupled with thought of mixing Popovich's and Robinson's work ethics, makes me side with those saying this won't be a long marriage.

caught mark stein on espn radio up here in dallas, he's saying that the spurs signing him is low risk, if he doesn't work out they'll cut him loose. otherwise, they have a good mid-range shooter to fill in for timmy d until he returns.
