Sorry to post two threads in such a quick time, but after today, I have to ask this...

Do you ever get the feeling that our generation is just worthless and pathetic?

(I know all of the older adults will just answer yes to this, hence the thread title;) )

Lately, it's just seemed to my that 90% of the kids my age lack the maturity, morality, knowledge, common sense, and wisdom to do anything with their lives.

Today, we had an assembly at school, and a lady was talking about how she was constantly beat up by a group of 6 girls throughout her schooling. She said this, and half of our school started laughing. I just wanted to take a proverbial book of knowledge (a pretty thick one at that), and go through the auditorium, row by row, and beat some of that book into people's heads.

Another thing that happened was about a week ago. A girl at my school was caught trying to sell mar1juana in class. A 17 year-old girl! How stupid can someone get? People my age just generally make me angry.

Has it always been this way?

I think I've lost faith in all but about 5% of my generation. It's pathetic.

    --------
Sorry for the rant, guys. I just had to get it out of me.

Well, I'm 17. I'm generally talking about kids in the age group of about 15 to 20. Maybe not 20, but you get the drift...

It also, particularly annoys me when kids my age bank on graduating high school and starting a "new life" in college. "I can't wait to get out of this town..", yada yada yada.

Newsflash...you're still gonna need mommy once you get into college. You don't just bounce over some invisible line the day you graduate high school. A piece of paper does not make you into a mature adult.

It could just be that bad apples (particularly young ones) are generally easier to notice than people who are good citizens... but yeah, it does seem like there are more of those apples than before.

Also, I wouldn't necessarily just limit that to gen-yers either. Our whole society seems to be growing more pretentious and superficial and less courteous every day.

Maybe not 20..... now I feel old :(

Just remember, it's not just your genereation, every is an idiot in H.S., the increase in maturity in College is just amazing. 95% of what you think is the most important thing in H.S. turn into just a small deal once you get into College.

My favorite is the stardom chaser who thinks he/she is above getting a job before Hollywood comes calling.

being an idiot isn't age specific... I know lots of middle aged idiots

but most people do learn from their experiences eventually which is why us youngins seem so dim

wisdom is learning from other people's mistakes without having to make them yourself, imo, and isn't all that dependent on age

getting off topic, you are not what you drive, think, feel, say or own
    you are what you do

Exactly. In a way, that's my point.

I had a teacher earlier this year that flipped out on the kids in my class, because the kids in it were all the popular kids that just screwed off during the entire class. So, he flipped out on them and told them the same exact thing, and basically told them that they'd never amount to nothing if they stayed like they were. It was harsh and unprofessional, but I think he got his point across.

I would agree with your observation.

I personally believe this happens because

    a) the family unit breaks down a little bit more each year.
    b) markets successfully push affluenza onto people
    c) Americans have become spoiled in our wealth (in a global view)

...hhmmmm.. this is starting to sound like a D&D post.

i'm pretty sure stupidity and immaturity are not specific to any generation.

I wouldn't feel too bad about your generation. I read an oral history about the Great Depression/World War II generation and there were plenty of knuckleheads in the so-called "greatest generation," too. High school can often be a giant holding pen of hormones that makes everybody, students and teachers alike, seem a little lamer than they really are. I guess the challenge for everybody these days is to figure out if your life has more value than being just another consumer, or backdrop to somebody else's dream.

i think you need to lighten up. i'm 17, and at this age we have an excuse to be stupid at times. i don't act like a moron at work or at times when i need to be serious. however, i party with my friends, make idiotic, irreversable sins, and just have fun being a teenager. i don't hurt anybody. there's alot of a-holes out there in every generation, but as for teens, you just have to chill out...we're young.

lighten up and have fun while youre young, man.

I see where you're coming from, but that's not really what I'm talking about. It's all good to go out and party and have fun. I go out and have fun all the time (don't really party though...because I don't drink, and that's all that ever seems to be at parties). I act silly, stupid, nerdy, geeky, "r****ded" all the time. In fact, if you asked anyone to describe me, that's probably what they'd say about me.

I'm just talking about a general ignorance, especially highlighted in the things I talked about.

Haha man, one thing you already seem to know is that high school does not end after graduation. People are people everywhere anytime.

And yes, Eddie was snubbed. But at this point I forget what he was snubbed for. All rookie team? (I'm on the 'we should have kept him at all costs' bandwagon.)

That's what the screen name was orginally named for. Now, I just think he was snubbed from the psych ward as a child.

    Great ball player, though!
