At work, I'm a Netscape user... we've been using 4.7 and I just upgraded to 6.0

Does anyone out there use 6.0
And if so, what do you think about it?

I like the new look but I don't like the fact that you can't move your Messenger tabs (sender, date, size, etc) in a custom order.

Some features are nice but I almost prefer 4.7

anyone else with any comments on this app?

Netscape is a bug fest. I haven't used it much except at work since 4.5 I think. I prefer IE.

by the end of the day i had stopped using 6.0 and the new netscape messenger. it did seem buggy. None of the webpages i went to displayed properly and the text on the pages were not uniform. I also could not add our work directory to my address book.

At home, it's IE!! Unfortunately at work, it's back to Netscape 4.7...

Netscape 6 is basically a branded Mozilla. Mozilla is an open-source web-browser that seeks to create a comprehensive, fully standards compliant, cross-platform web browser. It's been in development for about 2 years, and has been a saga in both innovation and mistakes.

That being said, Netscape got impatient and the Netscape 6 that was released is actually a July or August build of Mozilla that was cleaned up a bit and had the "N" slapped all over it.

Mozilla is at .7 now and is looking to finally be at 1.0 by this summer. It's been shaping up REALLY well, and it should be coming together and coalescing in the next few months. There's still TONS of debugging code left in it, and lots of loosely cobbled features.

Mozilla has a lot going for it, but it's been a rough road. The developers seem to be intent on feature-creep, adding more and more while not focusing on what's actually there. I started using it off and on at the M8 release (a long time ago - the numbering scheme just recently changed from M1-18 to .6 and .7), and it has steadily improved. Netscape really blew it by releasing 6 so early. It's understandibly difficult to be continually waiting and waiting to release your product to a skeptical public, but by releasing something so subpar, it only hurts.

I happen to be in Windows right now instead of Linux (Playing Planescape:Torment), and I'm using IE. It's faster (tied into windows so much, how could it not be), smoother, and it works better than anything else available (although Opera is debatable). For Linux users, it's a difficult decision between Netscape 4.7 which is mediocre at best, and Mozilla, which works, but is slow and crash-prone. Personally, I'll be ecstatic when Mozilla hits 1.0 . . .

In the meantime, check out mozilla. It may not be what you're looking for, but it'll give you an interesting insight into where this is going, and the new .7 release is infinately better than Netscrape 6.
