If Vick is Smart he'll stay in School another year . Let The Texans make you the Star of their team , The Chargers are the disgrace of the NFL

The Chargers defense at times was gawd-awful at times this last season (even with Seau and Harrison), and they're still paying Ryan Leaf a lot of money to be a bad quarterback. Plus, if he stays he's got a legit shot at the national title next season. How could he pass that up?

By staying in school, though, he runs the risk of injury or even just a very ppor season that hurts his draft standing. There is also the possibility of other QBs emerging next season that the Texans decide they like better. Or the Texans could find their QB through other means and not be looking to draft a QB next year. Or they could get a great trade offer that includes that #1 pick and Vick could end up in Buffalo or something. (I use Buffalo as an example because it's really cold there, and I wouldn't want to have to play my home games there. I don't know that a Michael Vick would be opposed to playing in Buffalo, though).

I would think that playing in Houston would be the better choice than playing in San Diego because the organization is likely better. But there is a risk in not coming out now.

If it were me, I'd leave college. It's not that I'd prefer San Diego over Houston. It's that I would prefer the bird in the hand (definite #1 overall pick) vs. the two in the bush (potential national championship and still #1 overall pick, but with the real possibility of neither happening).

I hope we take a running back with the first pick in '02, then take Simms with the first pick in '03.

Odd Tid bit...The Daniel Snyder apologized to Casserly on the phone... Saying he let the wrong man go. He should have let Norv tuner go first.

Art Shell's representative said on Saturday that the former Raiders head coach is interested in serving as an assistant to Redskins coach Marty Schottenheimer.

    RM95,

Couple of months ago you were bashing me for liking Simms more than Major. Now you want him for the Texans as the #1 pick? [IMG]

Simms # 1?!? Save some of that burnt orange weed for me [IMG]
I can smoke it in the offseason dreaming of that national championship.

The best QB's are not always taken # 1.

I was bashing you for liking him better based on potential. Applewhite had done nothing except get hurt to show that he shouldn't have been the starting QB. I don't think you should lose your job due to injury.

I've never doubted Simms awesome potential.

I still say Simms is mostly potential. He had one great, complete game all season: vs A&M. In the bowl game, he threw no TDs and a bunch of picks. Sure his receivers let him down late, but the QB is the leader out there. I love Simms potential, but if Applewhite is healthy he should be given the shot in camp to reclaim his starting job.

Another bad thing about playing for houston is that expansion teams don't normally have great offensive lines, so he'll take a lot of abuse. of course, it might be the same way with san diego.

I wish he stays. If i was in Vicks situation I would actually stay. Not cause of houston but just to be on a first year expansion team, you will be the center of attention. He will be taking the city in his hands. I would want to be in that situation. VICK PLEASE STAY one more year!

Chances are though, he won't play any significant minutes for awhile. Cleveland got Detmer to start and Couch to learn from the bench, ala McNair and Chandler. Detmer got hurt and that thrust Couch into the starting role too early.

I like the way McNair was handled (he'll always be better than Manning for example) because now he understands the game. He thinks it. However, I think Vick should start in Houston because that team would need to grow up together. Young players tend to bond together, struggle together, and in that situation I think the team would be stronger when they finally start winning. Everybody on the same page.

It basically comes down to if he wants to play in Houston or San Diego. My gosh, that's not an easy decision because San Diego does have a defense and is in a warm climate. Houston will struggle for a long time, but San Diego could make a quick jump forward if Vick has any real talent.

Didn't Charlie Casterly(sp?) have something to do with Vick deciding to stay one more year? I thought I heard that Vick consulted with Charlie and his college coach before making the decision.
