Great win, glad I got to see the game till the end.. Tracy was at his best lastnight... I cant wait to see what kinda focus he will bring to the table come playoff time, and even next season after playing a year in JVGs system OR FUTURE'S SO BRIGHT, WE GOTTA WEAR SHADES!!!!
she said: Honey can we talk about something else besides Yao Mig tonight? He said:Sure Darling. Have you seen my T Mac wrist watch?
I think you have a good point. Yao spent a lot of time chasing and trying to trap the guard with the ball out at the perimeter. Which is very effective for the Rockets, because usually the opposing guard with the ball will have to stop and pass the ball out. That alone takes a lot out of Yao. I think Yao will adjust though, don't worry about it. Deke is not helping on the perimeter as much, he is solid in the paint for blocking shots and getting defensive rebounds. I'm sure Yao's teammates doesn't have a problem with his effort because they know how good they have it unlike some fans here always trying to bash Yao for the wrong reasons. I have a feeling that's JVG's instruction to Yao to step up on his defense and JVG is trying to develop Yao's defensive potential. I think we'll see an adjusted Yao with increased stamina and help keep the Rockets' defense to the best they can be.
Well I did say Yao does a little more on defense since he comes out to the perimeter more than say...Shaq. But then Shaq is just too lazy to go anywhere outisde the low post. And I never said Yao doesn't want to impose his will. I know he wants to dominate...but wanting and doing are two different things. His stamina, yes, is a reason he fails to truly dominate throughout the whole game. But cultural differences come into play as he's still getting used to paying this tougher, more aggresive style that we see in the NBA. The system, like I said, is fine...once Yao overcomes his weaknesses, if ever, he will dominate. Right now, the team is doing fine w/ him deferring to T-Mac as the team-leader and primary scoring option. Anyways, great win. And moving past the Yao/T-Mac debates... I would like to see more of Vin Baker and Braggs...gotta find out if these guys can contribute in any way...cause Padge and Spoon are a blackhole on offense right now.
i think he's also wasting a lot of energy fighting for position in the low post.. and not getting the ball anyway..
Interesting! So many fans debate on Yao each game. What Yao has to do? Tell JVG:"I don't want to go outside for just helping to set a shoot up, I don't want go chasing guard. I need focus on my own game, and make this team better!" I doubt he dare say that! He'd better have a coach who understands him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rockets Summary Mental game Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy accompanied several Rockets players participating in a voluntary light workout Monday. He even worked with one. Van Gundy put Yao Ming through some light drills, but he worked with his center primarily to hone Yao's mood and approach more than his game. "I have no issue with any aspect of Yao Ming's game other than his approach right now," Van Gundy said. "It's the year, to me, of the analysis of Yao. He's getting hit over the head. I believe it's caused some small twinge of self-doubt. "One of the great things about Yao last year was his poise and demeanor. Now he's gotten caught up in every non-call, showing frustration with every miss, every mistake, and to me, we're going to feed off him and Tracy (McGrady), so your best players can't be frustrated. He has to be above that. Every player goes through tough times. I just want him to be up." Van Gundy said he did not do a lot of preaching, and Yao said before Monday's game that he thought it helped, but "we'll have to see." But Van Gundy emphasized that he wanted Yao to regain his confidence and focus. "There's not one thing -- and I know there's a lot of `big man's coaches' out there -- wrong with Yao Ming's game," Van Gundy said. "His footwork is fine. The moment he snaps out of this thing that is enveloping him right now and he becomes upbeat, looking forward to the competition, he'll be fine. He's shooting 44 percent over the last five games. That happens. If he takes the shot he wants and it doesn't go in, so what? ... "There's too much in his head right now other than clear his mind, lay all out, play as well as you can, and live with the result." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3106890 does that sound like a coach who doesnt understand Yao? reading that, who are the one's who don't understand absolutley anything here? Is it Yao? is it JVG? or is it you and YOF's? the answers pretty clear
I think Snyder is my new Jazzhole whipping boy. Classy. . . . After sweeping to the rim to score through a Dikembe Mutombo foul, Utah's Kirk Snyder celebrated by wagging his tongue in front of the Rockets' bench. "That's bush-league," Bob Sura said. "You don't do that kind of stuff in the NBA. In our last game, he made a racist comment to one of our players (Jon Barry). I'm not a fan." Sura and Barry would not elaborate, and Snyder denied making any comments when the teams played last month. When coach Jeff Van Gundy screamed for the technical foul, official Jack Nies hit him instead. Mehmet Okur put in the free throw, Snyder hit his, and the Jazz had a 16-2 run. By the next dead ball, Utah coach Jerry Sloan benched Snyder and let the rookie know what he thought of his display. The Rockets responded quickly. "It got us riled up," McGrady said. "It was a little disrespectful. I just thought that was uncalled for, jumping in somebody's face on our bench. It sparked us a little bit, and we buckled down and closed out the game." . . . http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3106890
T-Mac has an unbelievable night, the Rox are playing well, the NBA Playoffs are 23-24 days away but all they talk about on SPR610 is Major League BORINGBALL. Pretty sad
That's pathetic man. I don't understand the city of Houston. You have a professional basketball team that is playing great basketball. You have two Superstars that draw the biggest crowds on the road. Yet it took 5 months for people to fill the seats at the arena. And the media including radio and the Chronicle (Richard Justice, Lopez) are focused on preseason baseball and other sh*t.
I guess basketball is simply not the favorite sports here. Dosen't basketball rank 3rd among all sports in popularity in US (football and baseball being the top 2)? If it's a soccer team, you would hear even much less. So, just deal with it.
It's a big city, unlike SA, Utah, Memphis, or Orlando -- we've got more going on than just pro basketball. Football will always be king in Texas.
