Anyone done it? Where's the best place on the river to do it? How long is the season? What is the daily limit? How much does a license cost? Fly fishing gear or ultra-light tackle? Any websites with info?

All help is greatly appreciated. I've got to do it this year. No excuses!!!

Oh, man my dad and I used to fish the Guadalupe with light tackle every year. Actually, we preferred Stripers and Sunfish or Bluegill, but there are definitely trout.

Try going higer up on the river away from the heavy crowds and fish in the deeper pools on the non-River Road side where all the expensive cliff houses are.

Fly fishing is great but light tackle is a hell of a lot of fun. We used to float in a small raft or tube carrying our light rods (maybe 5 to 10 lb test with a Shakespear spinning real and a 5 or 6' Ugly Stick) using brown curly-tailed jig worms with flourescent orange tails (just like the crawfish in the river of which there are MANY LARGE one's) and just kill the perch, sunfish and blue gill. They are HUGE in the Guadalupe.

Good luck and let us know how it went. I don't fish any longer but I did a lot as a kid.

Did someone mention fly fishing? Be still my heart ....

    the waters rise
    as colors beyond my eyes
    there, and there again
    the eager splashes hauntingly

    then a flash of majesty
    beating faster and faster
    the push and strike
    loosening a proud gladiator

    now only a distant reminder

    followed by a smile

The trout cannot support their own fishery and are therefore stocked on the following dates:

    8-Dec-00, 27-Dec-00, 19-Jan-01, 15-Feb-01, 5-Mar-01

    in this area:

Canyon Tailrace - Guadalupe River : Below the dam, Whitewater Sports, Sattler Bridge, Camp Beans, and Camp Huaco will be stocked. Please note special regulations (one 18-inch minimum size limit, a one trout daily bag, and the restriction that only trout caught on artificial lures may be harvested) are in effect from the second bridge crossing on River Road upstream to the easternmost bridge crossing on FM Road 306. In this area, anglers may fish with all other legal means and methods and may harvest all fish except trout.

Good luck; for more info, TPWD has a good website.
