Forrest Whitaker is the guy that you're thinking of.

He had a brief appearance in another movie with an actor that should be mentioned.

Jay Davidson - The Crying Game

Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro could definitely make my list. I really like Pacino in The Insider and DeNiro I've liked in just about everything he's done, but Cape Fear was a pretty fantastic performance.

I loved Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in Shawshank. Freeman is another that is way up on my list and Robbins was also great in The Player and Bull Durham.

I loved Ben Kingsley in Ghandi (just saw it again the other night) and he also had a pretty cool role in Sneakers, which reminds me, Robert Redford was stellar in All the President's Men and I've always liked Sidney Poitier. Amazing to think that guy is in his late 70's!

On a down note, sad to see that Jason Robards died the other day. Always liked him as well.

    I loved that movie!!!

A lot of good movies mentioned, but let me add a few more:

    Body Heat
William Hurt and Kathleen Turner sizzled!

    The Big Easy
I really enjoy watching Ellen Barkin.

    Young Frankenstein
Gene Wilder at his best, and, even though I am not a Teri Garr fan, I think she was great. Favorite line:
    Wilder: Elevate me!!
Garr: Right here? In front of everybody?
    Wilder: Yes. Raise the platform.
    Garr: Oh!

And of course, one of my all time favorites:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
    Bring out your dead!!!!

I just watched Crimson Tide last night. I can now give credit for additional great performances by both Washington and Hackman.

    AGGHH!

How could I forget to mention the Monty Python boys?! [IMG]

I'll have to make up for it by mentioning some of their movies post-Monty Python.

Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle in Yellowbeard.

John Cleese and Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda.

    John Cleese in Silverado.

Eric Idle in The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen.

    And special mention of:

Terry Gilliam (director) of 12 Monkeys, Brazil, and Time Bandits.

Terry Jones (director and writer) of Erik the Viking.

Peter Sellers: Dr. Strangelove (although George C. Scott was funnier and Slim Pickens--hehe)
Paul Newman: Long Hot Summer (best Orsen Wells movie, imo)
Elizabeth Taylor Suddenly Last Summer (she was the Best)
Tom Hulce: Amadeus (incredible actor, hated Hollywood after they made him do Parenthood, so quit at went to Broadway)
Daniel Day Lewis: Unbearable Lightness of Being (definitely one of the best actors of all time)
Steve Bescemi: Resevoir Dogs (guy makes me laugh everytime he speaks)
Forrest Whittaker: Crying Game (most underrated actor, imo)

    behad,

I think you and I would get along.

Gene Wilder is one of my all time favourite comedy actors - Stir Crazy sticks out as one of the best.

    Come back you yellow b#stard!

King of the Britons? Who are the Britons?

There are so many incredible performances, but I will just mention the few that spring to mind.

William Hurt - Children of a Lesser God. Marlee Matlin won an Oscar, but Hurt did all the acting

De Niro and Pacino are all time classic actors but I've reached a stage now where I cannot appreciate them as serious actors as they are so stereotyped. De Niro has the right idea doing some comedy now, but watching Pacino do his little mouth movement with the tongue showing drives me freaking nuts. Raging Bull,Dog Day..and And Justice for All are excellent.

A couple of performances that I found pleasantly surprising were Leonardo Di Caprio in Basketball Diaries, and Robert Downey Jr in Less than Zero. Similar roles to Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas.

Harrison Ford in Regarding Henry and The Fugitive
Tim Robbins in Arlington Road, Shawshank and Bob Roberts.
Gene Hackman: Uncommon Valor, Mississippi Burning
    Liam Neeson in Michael Collins

Davo, My brother and I know practically every word of dialog in Holy Grail. I bet I have seen it over a hundred times. Here is one of the best MP sites:
    http://www.stone-dead.asn.au/main.html

Click on movies and you get a TON of good stuff from Holy Grail, including the complete script AND the opening credits. (For those of you not into MP and the HG, the opening credits are as funny as the movie itself.)

There's also a Monty Python and the Holy Grail quiz. Check it out.

I should give myself a slap for getting such performances as Robbins/Freeman in the Shawshank Redemption, Kevin Spacey in the Usual Suspects and Mel Gibson in Braveheart among some of the others mentioned.

Another I'd like to add is Robin Williams in Patch Adams, which was a great movie based on a true story.
