Just got done watching a movie and it reminded me how much I liked this particular actor. Just wondered who your favorites were and the film they were in that you liked the most. Male or female actors welcome.

Here are mine in no particular order:

    Denzel Washington - Malcom X
This is the one I was watching. I've liked him in quite a number of films (Mo Betta Blues) but this, IMO, was his finest performace. I still need to see the Hurricane, however.

    Tom Hanks - Philadelphia
Made the HUGE mistake of watching this on pay-per-view years ago right before a gig. I cried so damn hard that my eyes were all swollen and people kept asking me if I was ok at my gig. [IMG]

I've liked Hanks in nearly everything he's been in, but this was my favorite performace for him with Forest Gump and Apollo 13 a close 2nd and 3rd. Can't wait to see Castaway.

    Gene Hackman - Hoosiers
Hackman is one of my all-time favorite actors. I don't care if the film he is in sucks, I'll watch it. Hoosiers was a great film and it was about basketball which never hurts. I also really liked him in Enemy of the State - a kinda wierd one for him.

    Gary Sinise - Forest Gump
Although I thought he was simply amazing in Truman, Lt. Dan was a classic character. I've yet to see George Wallace and I heard he was amazing in that as well. To me, he is a lot like Hackman. Anything he is in, I'll go see.

    Diane Keaton - Annie Hall
There is no one who does broken dialogue as cool as Keaton. She stutters and stammers and makes it sound so cool. She's done quite a few films I've liked but Annie Hall was the knockout.

Will Smith - Six Degrees of Separation
If you've never seen that film, rent it. It is an indy film with Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland and Smith is brilliant. I haven't seen him in Baggar Vance, but the minute it is out on video, I'm renting it.

    Bill Murray - Stripes
Ok, so he's not a dramatic actor but I love the guy. However, if you've never seen him in the Razor's Edge, you'll be surprised. Every comedy he does just kills me and he always surprises me with stuff like Rushmore.

Helen Hunt - As Good As It Gets
I like Nicholson in this too but Hunt is amazing. Just about anything she does is good and, to be quite honest, I don't find her overly attractive though she is a beautiful woman so don't get the idea I just stuck her in here because she's a babe. Not so. I really like her as an actress.

Richard Dreyfuss - Mr. Holland's Opus
I loved Jaws and Close Encounters but his performance in Mr. Holland's Opus was just awesome. All time best line, "I think you are going to ignore this particular problem until it comes up and bites you on the ass."

John Cusak - Grosse Point Blank
Another non-dramatic guy but he cracks me up. Liked High Fidelity, still laugh at Better Off Dead and loved Bullets Over Broadway but Grosse Point Blank killed me for its over-the-top nonchalance about him being a hired killer. I like him enough to even enjoy One Crazy Summer. How pathetic is that?

    Annette Benning - American President
Yup, it's a cheesy movie but I liked her in it. She's a babe and she's a terrific actor (actress?). She was also terrific in Bugsy. In fact, she was probably better in that overall but I just liked her more in American President.

The best acting I have ever seen is Ben Kinsley (spelling?) in Gandhi. Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan and Al Pacino in Devils Advocate are close seconds. Also, Heston in Ten Commandments was just awesome!

Denzel is my favorite dramatic actor and I thought Malcolm X was one of his best films. You have to watch the Hurricane, Jeff, it was a GREAT movie. I also liked him in He Got Game.
I'm also a fan of bruce willis.
And although I like most of will smith's movies, I actually didn't like Six degrees.

My favorite actors are Tom Hanks (CastAway was great) in Forrest Gump and Apollo 13, and Kevin Spacey in American Beauty and Usual Suspects.

However, my favorite movie of all time is Gattaca.

While I think Kevin Spacey is a good actor, I didn't like American Beauty and I was truly upset that he won the Oscar over Denzel Washington's BRILLIANT performance in the Hurricane.

    Here's a few off the top of my tired head in no particular order;

    Harrison Ford: The Fugitive
I love his strong, solid unspectacular style and wisdom. He was just great in this thriller, and it still ranks as one of my all-time favs. I prefer Ford over many of today's flashier young'ins.

    Russell Crowe: Gladiator
Was also good in Proof of Life with Meg Ryan, but his role of Maximus was just classic (side note: Maximus was voted as the sexiest male character of all-time by some poll at a major magazine that I can't remember (People), not that I care! [IMG]) Actually has a lot of Ford's traits: Easy-going, heroic and solid as ice.

    Denzel Washington: THe Hurricane
He was probably a bit better in Malcom X, but since Jeff already stated the aforementioned and considering Denzel's unbelievable preformance in this true story, The Hurrican deserves some recognition. You should definatley check out this movie Jeff, it can have an empowering effect.

    Robin Williams: Dead Poets Society
I love most of his movies, and he is an outstanding comedic talent, but he proves his versatility in this one. THe movie itself was nothing spectacular in mind, but he gives another great performance.

    Robert De Niro: Heat
This was one of many great performances for De Niro, but Heat certainly stands out for me. De Niro is also showing he can do comedy lately with flicks like Anaylze This and Meet the Parents.

These are only some of the great actors and their movies I can think of right now. Tom Hanks, Al Pascino as well as a lot of female actors slipping my mind are high in my opinion as well.

I like those first three choices Azim, and I should probably check out the other two.

Kevin Costner -- Field of Dreams
I've always liked Kevin Costner and this is my favorite of all his films.

    Tom Hanks -- Apollo 13
Tom Hanks kicks ass and I've loved so many of his movies (Big, Forrest Gump, CastAway), but this is one where I was very impressed with his portrayal.

    Sylvester Stallone -- Rocky
The other Rockys were mediocre, but his performance in the original is excellent.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger -- Terminator 2
This is the role Arnold was made for . . . he will always be the Terminator.

Sean Connery -- The Rock and Any James Bond
    Sean Connery . . . 'nuff said.

    Michael Douglas -- The Game
He's had some excellent movies, but "The Game" is one in which I really think he was excellent.

Bruce Willis -- The Die Hards
Ditto DeanBCurtis . . . I also really liked his performance in Sixth Sense.

    Honorable Mention:
George Lazenby in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
    Dustin Hoffman in "RainMan"
Denzel Washington in "Fallen" (my favorite of his movies)

Christopher Walken - Suicide Kings -

He steals every scene despite spending the entire movie tied to a chair.

Kevin Spacey - Swimming with the Sharks

Speaking of actors dominating every scene despite spending the entire movie tied to a chair . . .

    Vin Diesal - Pitch Black

An up and coming actor with great screen presence.

    Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven

Proving that cowboy flicks can have depth.

Carrie Anne Moss - The Matrix

Although it might just be that she looks good kicking @$$ in tight leather [IMG]

    Francis McDormand - Fargo

Is that your friend in the wood chipper?

    Kate Hudson - Almost Famous

Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes . . .

    The foreign section:

Roberto Benigni - Life is Beautiful

He's like an Italian Robin Williams.

Jet Li - Fong Sai Yuk

Hilarious kung fu movie with over the top action.

Chow Yun Fat - The Killer

Most of his movies are good, but this is probably his most famous.

Anne Parillaud - La Femme Nikita

A movie so good that there is an American film (Point of No Return) and a TV series based on it.

Michelle Yeoh & Zhang Ziyi - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

A high fantasy martial arts movie in the theaters now that been getting rave reviews.

    Keaunu Reeves - The Matrix

    John Travolta - Phenomenon(sp?)

    Christian Bale - American Psycho

No contribution from me, only a question. I've read the book but have not seen the movie yet as I'm afraid to get a big letdown. How is the movie compared to the book? Should I just go ahead and rent it?

I haven't read the book, lol. But, from what I hear, it is very graphic. The movie is not as graphic. IT was a GREAT movie, imo, and nothing that I expected, since I didn't read the book. It was actually quite funny and was a major attack at yuppies and their lives in the late 80's. Go rent the movie man !!! [IMG]
