Come on, let's have it. The Super Bowl of the college football season is here. This is THE game. Undefeated OU vs. defending national champion FSU. Should be a great game, although an FSU win probably means a split national title. Just curious what the slant of the BBS on the game is, so let's hear some scores, MVP predictions, etc. Mine: Oklahoma 24 Florida State 17 We have a clearcut national champion. Florida State may have more individual talent and athletism, but so did Nebraska and K-State among others. The Sooners have a ton of heart, leadership, and all the intangibles that make national championship teams, and I think in a close game they pull it out. MVP: The Oklahoma defense. I've never seen a group more underestimated than the OU defense. FSU does have nice speed on offense, but this defense has come up big all season long, and with a month to prepare I think they'll be ready for FSU. Their secondary, line, and particularly linebackers are very strong, and they probably have IMO the best D in the country. They shut down Nebraska to 14, my Horns to 14, and K-State to just 17 in the Big 12 title game, 10 of which were off of stupid turnovers that gave them unbelievable field position. This group gets it done and does a fabulous job against Weinke and his receivers. Heupel will also have a good game I think, but with FSU's D it won't be fabulous. But he'll do all the little things right to win IMO, and combining that and the strong Oklahoma defense I think they'll surprise and win this game. Also, watch out for JT Thatcher returning punts for OU. This guy can really make something happen. How about you guys? ------------------ President of the Jason Collier and Mo Taylor fan club! I say Miami wins 37-20. Why? Because Florida will not be in a good offensive rhythm and turn the ball over quite a few times....enough to lose. ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
I'm with 4chuckie. FSU is unlike any team Oklahoma played all year, they are very fast, they have been there before, and their defense will crush OUs offense. FSU wins by two touchdowns & we have a split national title yet again. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker

I say OU wins by 7 or less. On paper, they appear to have had a tougher schedule, beating K State twice, Nebraska, A&M at College Station and Texas. IF FSU does win, there better not be any of this cr#p about shared national title. Live by the BCS, die by the BCS. The BCS championship game is exactly that - a game between the top 2 teams in the nation, and the winner should be the undisputed No.1. Using Miami's logic, even if OU lose tonight, they stil have a legitimate claim to a shared national title. They will have lost only onr game - to FSU If Miami think that the BCS is wrong, then give back their BCS bowl money. ------------------ Maybe all the rulers are wrong. I think people are SEVERELY underrating Oklahoma, while giving Florida State TO much credit! Granted they are the defending national champions, but they have looked vulnerable. In fact people are just blowing off the Miami game as a fluke, and I don't think it was. I think it showed that Florida State is vulnerable. And Oklahoma has beaten the teams that were supposed to beat them. They are VERY talented, they aren't just some flukish team living a dream season like people think. And they will have something to prove since everyone has already given the win to Florida State and are worried about a split national championship. I expect a dogfight, I expect the Sooners to neutralize the Seminoles speed, and I expect a shootout in the 4th that Oklahoma will win. Florida State will lead at the half, Oklahoma will lead when it matters. Oklahoma 31 Florida State 28 By the way I think that Miami-FL should be ranked #2 in the country and should be playing Oklahoma. The fact that Florida State is more of a "name" school is the the main reason they are ahead of Miami despite Miami leading the BCS a good deal of the time. They need a playoff BADLY! ------------------
Florida State, 38-21. MVP: Chris Weinke (what a bold prediction) I hate college football postseason--it's such a joke to have a split champion. ------------------ Jazzkiller

I'm too late to make a prediction, but not matter what happens Bob Stoops will be the hottest coaching commodity in the offseason. Stoops is from Ohio and the job at Ohio State is very enticing. Just think of what Stoops can do at OU with some top 10 recruiting classes like Mack Brown so I'm kinda hoping Stoops moves to Columbus. I also want a successful OU team to put pressure on Texas to improve. I just don't know what is better for the Horns. Buckeyes have long list, no leading candidates ESPN.com news services As soon as possible after the FedEx Orange Bowl game tonight, Ohio State will ask Oklahoma for permission to talk with Bob Stoops about the Buckeyes' head coaching job, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported. Ohio State is interested in checking on Stoops' availability and/or interest before moving on to other candidates. At almost the same time that reports first started circulating that John Cooper was out, everyone started talking about who would be in as the Buckeyes' next coach. The list of candidates mentioned on call-in shows and suggested by reporters Tuesday ranged from the ridiculous to the obvious. Ohio State athletics director Andy Geiger, who fired Cooper after he spent 13 years with the Buckeyes, said he did not have a list of his own. "There's no inside track. There's not a leading candidate," Geiger said at a news conference announcing that Ohio State had bought out the final three years of Cooper's contract for $1.8 million. "I prefer to be open-minded on these things and to get the lay of the land and to learn about what's possible." Geiger has appointed an advisory committee to help with the search. But he said he would be seeking "the best possible fit" in a coach instead of meeting a deadline. The man who preceded Cooper as Ohio State's coach said it is presumptuous of Ohio State fans to immediately assume that the brightest coaching minds in the land will come calling on Geiger. "Sometimes people around the country feel the coaching job at Ohio State is much less desirable than what the people in Columbus think it is," said Earle Bruce, the Buckeyes' head coach from 1979 to 1987. Here is a partial list of names that may be under consideration for the job: Stoops. A Youngstown native, Stoops' Sooners will take on Florida State for the BCS national championship in the Orange Bowl tonight. The AP's national coach of the year in just his second season, Stoops is 39 years old. Minnesota coach Glen Mason. A former Ohio State player under Woody Hayes and an assistant under both Hayes and Bruce (1978-85), Mason wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to his alma mater. After leading Minnesota to a 29-17 upset of the No. 6-ranked Buckeyes in October, Mason was near tears. The Big Ten's coach of the year in 1999, he is 81-89-1 in 15 seasons as a head coach. Mason told WCCO-TV on Tuesday night that he had not been contacted by Ohio State, and that his plan was to stay in Minnesota "for now." Pittsburgh coach Walt Harris. An assistant coach with the Buckeyes in 1995-96, Harris helped develop the talents of Bob Hoying as the quarterbacks coach. A graduate of Pacific, Harris is 31-50 in seven years as a head coach, including a 7-5 record that ended in a 37-29 loss to Iowa State in this year's Insight.com Bowl. Harris issued a statement that said he was "extremely happy" and "not looking to leave" Pittsburgh. Youngstown State coach Jim Tressel. An assistant coach under Bruce from 1983-85, Tressel has guided the Penguins to NCAA Division I-AA championships four times (1991, '93, '94 and '97) and to the runner-up spot three other times. Miami University coach Terry Hoeppner. Has only been the head coach of the in-state RedHawks for two seasons, but his spread offense gave Ohio State fits in their meeting at Ohio Stadium in September. Miami led 10-3 in the first half and trailed just 20-16 until the Buckeyes scored a clinching touchdown with 6:43 left. Former Ohio State player Chris Spielman. An NFL veteran who now works as a broadcast analyst, Spielman has reportedly turned down opportunities to be an assistant coach with the Buckeyes. But after Cooper was fired, he again said he'd be interested in being the head coach at his alma mater. Geiger said he has no clear picture of what he wants in a new coach. But Bruce said Ohio State's fans have already made one thing clear. "People in Columbus are fed up with losing to Michigan," he said. "They care about winning." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited January 03, 2001).]
I think I win the predictions game!!! I knew that D would step up. OU had been underrated all year long. After they whipped up on my Horns, I knew they were pretty good but I thought they weren't that good- it was just Texas played that bad. But after that October afternoon win in Kansas St., I believed. This team had something special all year long. Hopefully the Horns were watching and taking notes for next season. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier and Mo Taylor fan club! Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com

Hey my prediction wasn't that bad either! I told you guys that you were severely underrating Oklahoma and giving Florida State to much credit. Oklahoma did more then neutralize the speed, they stuffed it down the Seminoles throats! No question Oklahoma was the better team by far. They are the national champions. Oregon State was the only team playing almost as good at OU in the country! ------------------
