McGrady went down while trying to defend Lee Nailon in the lane. Rockets officials said it was not clear whether McGrady would return to the game. Guys, can someone give me an update on this? I didn't see the first part of the game, so all I know is that Tmac is hurt. From the looks of it, it was pretty bad. Does this sound like a season ending injury, or is he day to day? Hopefully it just looked a lot worse than it is. Someone mentioned that he was seen jogging in the locker room???
I didn't see it, but the way some people are describing it gives me a sick feeling in my stomach. Ya, and that picture doesn't help at all.
I think it is most likely to going to just be a hip pointer. When you fall on your hip really hard, it hurts, but he'll be fine. Its just going to be tender. I would be shocked if he missed very many games, if any.
Update: Bill Worrell and Van Chancellor on the Rockets Post Game Report that the injury is not serious and if he is not ready for Sunday against the Spurs, he should be ready for Wednesday against Utah.
Sounds about right. The Utah game is a back-to-back following San Antonio, so maybe it's best to give him a few days off to rest. And besides, the Hawks of all teams are currently giving the Duncan-less Spurs a scare, so even without T-Mac, the Rockets should have a good chance of winning Sunday.
I posted this in the game thread after it occured: HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED: Tmac turned to follow the ball at the goal (on defense), and he turned right into Yao with his right leg out. At the split second that Tmac's foot hit the ground, Yao stepped right on it, so it couldn't move. Tmac's forward momentum caused him to straight leg and put pressure on either his knee or his hip, since his foot was planted under Yao's. He grabbed his hip a bit as he went down, perhaps the same quad injury he had earlier.
I hope they sit him for the next three games. If this had to happen it could not happen at a better time with our schedule (New Orleans, Spurs no Duncan, Utah no AK, Portland whom we own and New Orleans again). T-Mac could use the rest anyway with all the minutes he has been logging. This will make us stronger for the stretch run and the playoffs. The reserve core will see more playing time and be ready for the playoffs when called upon by JVG.
I see what you're saying but the problem with that is we can't afford to lose any of those easy games. Without Tmac theres a sizeable chance we can lose them. We are only 2 games ahead of Memphis who are nearly as hot as we are right now. As much as I would love to say "Yeah, let Tmac rest because we should be able to win those games." I'm leary because if we lose the games we are supposed to win it makes it that much harder for us to keep the 6th seed and play Seattle instead of falling to the 7th and playing San Antonio/Phoenix.
Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said an X-ray taken of McGrady's hip did not show any damage. McGrady also is scheduled for an MRI and his status after the game was day-to-day. ... P.J. Brown, who had 10 rebounds, became the Hornets' career defensive rebound leader. He has 2,303, passing Larry Johnson, who had 2,293. ... Rockets are 14-0 when holding opponents to 80 points or fewer. ... New Orleans is 0-14 in its own division, the Southwest. If it loses Sunday at Memphis and April 1 at Houston, New Orleans will become the first NBA team to lose all of its divisional games in a season
That IS good news. I was really pulling for P.J. Brown to pass Larry Johnson as the Hornets' defensive rebounding leader. Oh yeah, good news on T-Mac as well.
