Announced attendance at the game was 33,000+. I think that was stretching it a tad, but there were a lot of people there. It was a good showing, and I don't think they were disappointed, especially the first year. Jim MacInvale said he would be happy with 25,000-30,000.

I was referring to a story last week -- the President of the bowl announced 28,000 tickets had been sold. Apparently, MacInvale asked them to double check, since that seemed high. They then said 4,800. The bowl president said he had been given bad information by the Astrodome box office. (This excluded the 20,000 tickets allocated to the schools for sale.)

One other note -- the price stratification was a little odd. The upper terrace (rainbow section) went for $25.00. The next seats were $50. It ended up with a lot of people in the student sections (on the field -- in the movable sections) and lower levels, as well as in the terrace section, and pratically empty loge level in between.

    What were my thoughts??

I think it's a ridiculous and embarrasing name for a bowl held in the City of Houston. It makes me sick to my stomach that the Bowl Commission allowed that blabbering schmuck buy his own bowl game in order to promote his freaking furniture store. Hopefully someone will come to their senses and pull this circus from Houston or at least change the name to something meaningful or traditional and not a lame sales pitch.

Thank you. My sentiments exactly. Can't we change the name to the "Bluebonnet Bowl" or something?

By the way, did anyone watch it on TV? I did...and it seemed like every other ad really would "save you money!!!" [IMG]

I knew what you were referring to. I was making a seperate, but related, point about the ability of Techsans to get to the game.

MrPaige. I figured you did. [IMG]

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't understating the attendance. It was a good first bowl. I think it has a good chance of being a success -- provided it has at least one Texas team.

How's this any different from the MicronPC bowl or the Nokia Sugar Bowl, or any of the other bowls?

why couldn't it be the Gallery Furniture Bowl? Why did have to be the .com bowl? That's pretty stupid..

I heard the winning team got to take home, that night, a Sumpter Solid Wood Dining Room Set and a Commander King Sofa with built in drink holders, night light and mini fridge all with no Back, Back, Back, Back order slip!!

    hehe

At least the Sugar Bowl has been around for awhile(it's still a shame that the naming rights are sold to the highest bidder). As for the MicronPC Bowl, IMO, it's just as stupid and worthless as Mac's bowl.

Probably because when someone hears the ads during the game or for the the game, it's easier for them to go to "galleryfurniture.com" than "Gallery Furniture".

Did anyone else go? What were your thoughts?

Publicity -- They did a pretty good job, but really should have started earlier. (The big blitz started about 2 weeks before the game.) The negative publicity from the announcement that there was 28,000 seats sold a week before the game -- dropped to 4,800 in the recount -- didn't help.

Parking -- Awful! Horrible! Stupid! Actually, there was adequite parking, but just barely. There was no park-n-ride service, which would have helped a lot. They did not open the area in front of the Astroarena soon enough -- and that should have been one of the first things they filled.

There was a completely inadequite number of people directing traffic -- people were winding around the lot, making spaces, and getting in each others way. They didn't leave lanes open for people to go through when the east side filled up. The HPD officers / constibles working on Fannin were horrible -- relying on the traffic light, and mainly standing there.

We got within a quarter mile of the dome at 6:15, and didn't get inside until 7:30. It was horrible. It was much better leaving the stadium -- by then everyone seemed to figure out what they were doing.

The show: Great. Announcer good. Bands great (especially Texas Tech). They kept everything moving well. It was kind of funny to see tortillas flying in the dome.

The game: Well, we missed the first quarter -- and at 0-20, so did Texas Tech. The rest of the ball game was really good. It was a hard fought battle between two good teams. Unfortunately, Tech was playing catch up the whole game, and didn't quite make it.

Question of the game: Everyone seemed to be asking -- "Where in the heck is East Carolina?" (A few even pointed out "I thought it was North and South Carolina!") Answer -- Greensboro, N.C.

Actual attendance was probably worse than it should've been because of the snow and ice storms in the Panhandle and South Plains.

That idiot even has his delivery vans painted with The Rock and Stone Cold promoting this event. I'm slowly beginning to agree that Matress Mack is a slimy b*stard despite the good things he does.

I'm just wondering where this man gets all this money. His furniture store is successful but it can't be that successful. Does he have another major source of income?

I got two words for you. David Garrard.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Not so fast my friends. Garrard is the best QB that you have never heard about. He is a Michael Vick/Steve McNair/Dante Culpepper. Casserly was at the game scouting for the Texans. The Texans should use the first pick on another position with Garrard available.
