I recall Bullard getting a T for hanging on the Rim when someone was directly underneath. He waited for the guy to move before letting go & got a Technical.

They were cutting down on the rim hanging a couple of years ago and have since let up tremendously.

If you are an offensive player going for a shot and you get undercut, it's reasonable to allow you to hang on to the rim to protect yourself.

Wade was playing defense. He jumped over Deke trying to block his shot, failing to do so, he hung on to the rim and caused Deke to miss his shot. The refs blew that call. It should have been a defensive goaltending. I would think a tech is warranted too. A defensive player has a choice of not putting himself in that position. There is no reason to protect him. If you do so, then defensive players will be doing that all day long.

The league won't do anything to Crawford because they encourage refs to ref like that. Superstars get preferential treatment. Crawford will probably be rewarded for being aware that Shaq had 4 fouls after 3 quarters, and taking action to take one away!

Yeah, I emailed the league (with the link provided in this thread) and I made sure to bring up the timely release of that Sporting News article about star treatment and the officiating.

You know nothing will really be done about it - except MAYBE they'll show us even LESS favor after the fans b!tched about it. I might have to ressurect the refs suck club.

"Hey ref! Bend over and use your good eye!"
"Hey ref! Which one of the Heat is your boyfriend?!"
"Hey ref! What game are you watching?!"
"Hey ref! Puff puff pass, man! I want some of what you're having!"

You know what? These guys are paid professionals they need to learn how to "deal with it". We tell players they need to learn how to deal with heckling officials need to do the same. If an official is going to hand out technicals because someone gives a "stupid look" or laughs then we need to start firing these officials and start hiring officials that know how to "deal with it".

Exactly. The best officials are those who make the calls and walk away from the situation. They make very good money for working 9 months out of the year with great benefits. One of the job requirements should be to hold your emotions in check.

Unless a player is cursing at you, touching you, or yelling non-stop, the refs should understand it's part of the job.

The worst refs are those who stare you down. It's ridiculous and the NBA goes out of its way to protect these guys rather than making them accountable.

The only time Ive ever seen the league actually take action was in 1995 when Jake O' Donnell ejected Clyde Drexler and Bob Lanier's wife made a call to the NBA office.

It's sort of like watching ESPN now. Do people care about the athletes and the game, or do they care about you, anchor or ref?
