This may be a stupid question, but how do you seed? I usually just keep the window open for other users. Is that the same thing as seeding? Just want to make sure I am making a contribution also.

Yeah, just keep it open. It should seed automatically. All BT clients will show your upload speed and how much you've uploaded so far. So take a peek at all the numbers that fly by the screen.

i'm having probs actually watching them once they've been downloaded. It says it's a real vid file, yet i can't watch it in real player. do i need to change some settings, or do i use a different program.

And to think i use to call myself a computer nerd....

i use VLC player, that one works great.

These aren't real vid files. They're .avi, I guess you've got it associated with Realplayer. Anyway you probably just need to install the Xvid Codec .
