I tell you, it must be the season of giving, cause the Lions sure gave the Rams the gift of a lifetime. Going into today, the Lions controlled their own destiny for the playoffs. I considered it practically locked up for them. I mean, all they had to do to make the playoffs is win a HOME FOOTBALL GAME AGAINST THE 4-11 CHICAGO BEARS!!! And somehow, someway, they find a way to lose against the Bears at home, in a game that the Lions had everything to play for and the Bears had nothing to play for. You talk about the great choke jobs in sports? This one is one of the bigger one's I've seen in a while. On a side note, I went to the Saints/Rams game today, and you should have seen the scoreboard operators. It was hilarious. They literally took the Lions/Bears game off the scoreboard, and only showed updates when the Lions were in the lead and doing well, trying to tick off the Rams. It was pretty funny. Of course, as some Rams said after the game, it was obvious Chicago was mounting a rally as there were no updates for about an hour and a half. But they certainly got their Christmas gift for this year. However, if Ricky Williams returns, which New Orleans sources say he probably will next week, I'd put my money on the Saints next week. Should be a fun game at least. If the Saints win, they'd have to play Minnesota in Minnesota, which normally is a daunting task. But the way the Vikes have been playing, that might be good news. Especially combining how porous their run defense has been with the likely return of Ricky. But of course that's getting ahead and just speculation over the next round. Oh, and if there are any Lions fans out there, sorry for the bad memories this post might cause. You have to admit though, that was one heck of a choke!
