http://www.nba.com/features/brown_050318.html Q: Speaking of Houston, you said in preseason that the Tracy McGrady/Yao Ming connection would be a work in progress and could really click during the second half. What are your thoughts on how the Rockets are playing right now? Brown: We had them (on ABC) last weekend when they beat Sacramento. Here’s what you have to remember. When you start out with two guys who are the first and second team All-NBA, at worst, third team, who else has that? Only the great teams. But they have to play to their potential. Can Tracy and Yao play to the potential of Dwyane Wade and Shaq? Can they play to the potential of Tony Parker and Tim Duncan? Not many teams have the two guys. With the addition of Mike James, that was a great pickup. Since he’s arrived, they’re playing terrific. The kid is averaging over 17 points per game. Then you add him with Jon Barry and David Wesley and all of a sudden you have high production three-point shooting game, which goes hand-in-hand with the double-teaming of McGrady and Yao. Then, all three of those guys can guard people. And they all can handle and they all can run. Enough credit has not been giving to their management. Whoever is pulling the strings there has made some terrific additions.
Les has done a good job. He stuck with CD through an aborted rebuild. He stuck with Rudy for a long time, and I think made the right move at the right time with JVG. He has allowed CD to fix his mistakes. Les has 2 championships under his belt because he trusted the right people, and now he will probably be a contender for more for years to come.
True, right. The Rox will need to continue tweaking especially with some younger and athletic blood to stay strong year after year.
We are going to skip right over that, "what is the missing piece" year and take our championship now. The Pistons will bow before planet Houston.
I think Hubie is an intelligent person. He doesn't speak in clichee's; like Walton and all the other goons on TV who are supposed to be the experts. Hubie turned the Grizzley's around. He is a guy who has a lot of credibility in my opinion. When he says the Rockets are doing things right, it's because that is what is happening. Of course Yao and McGrady have to play to their potential. If they can do that then the Rockets won't have to hang the heads at the end of the season no matter what happens on the quest to a 3rd title.
I've made jokes before about how Hubie looks kinda like a corpse when he was with Memphis....but I cant ignore, and really never have ignored, his smarts. He is a very good coach, adn a even better analyst. If I had to rate the TV talking heads...Hubie would be real close to the top. and I aint just saying this cause he is talking nice about us.
Mr. Alexander can take no credit for the first championship. He wrote the check, and the team won before he could make any sort of imprint on the organization.
That doesn't seem like a column/article. More like a question/answer session. Perhaps even a transcript. It reads more like he speaks. From watching all those NBA games, I could hear him speaking that paragraph like I was watching a telecast.
well what i like about hubie is that he gives details of why he feels a certain way. he gives examples, and he backs them up with facts. overall he just has no bias towards anybody and i trully enjoy that in an analyst because we can see stu scott kissing lebrons butt and we used to see ahmad rashad following jordan like a shadow. so i trully appreciate brown
Question for y'all. I tend to agree with what Hubie said. However, how do we know he's right and I'm not just a homer? I notice we tend to agree with everything said in favour of the Rockets and bash everything said against them. How do we know Chad Ford (who we can an idiot) isn't actually right and we were just too homerish to admit it?
Because Chad Ford sticks his finger up in the air to see which way the wind is blowing before writing his column. Remember his article on why the Magic got the better end of the trade? or the countless other flip flops by the so called insider.
OK fine, forget Chad Ford. What about the others whom we can hacks. The point is still the same. At what point do we say, I don't like it, but this guy actually has a point.
