I'd actually say Talking Book is his best album and that Songs In The Key Of Life marked the decline of Stevie Wonder into his wanky Mix 96.5 adult contemporary phase. "You are The Sunshine Of My Life" always struck me as the "Wouldn't It Be Nice" of that record. Great pop song that didn't fit in with the rest of a complex record.
I was still in MEXICO in the late eighties when "I Just Called To Say (I love you)" was popular. I sang the song without knowing the lyrics. Ay yos col... tu sey... ay lo biu... en ay min e from, de boron, of may jar...
Ugh....too quick a response. I was thinking about the part with the car horns & police & sirens(?) and decided it may be just a continuation of Living for the City. Still unsure about it though...................often thought it was a separate song.
Of all the CD's I have, I don't have a Stevie Wonder...I'll get one next payday...Some great songs...
"I Just Called To Say(I Love You)" But I'm in a coma and I shop at the mall. Seriously though, I went with Other because my favorite is "Higher Ground".
i could pick any tune off innervisions at any time. that is actually an all time top 10 album for me. what amazes me is the fact that stevie played virtually every instrument on the album. not only a great songwriter, piano player and singer, but fantastic drummer, bassist and harmonica player too. he has a style all his own on every different instrument. jesus children of america dont you worry bout a thing visions uptight isnt on innervisions, but i guess that would be my fav. i just love the energy on that track.
"Lately" wasn't mentioned and is one of my favorites but Higher Ground and Sir Duke are probably at the top of my list.
stevie wonder is a complete hack. he totally ripped off fresh prince and coolio. that guy hasnt one iota of originallity in his whole body. geesh dude, quit ripping off others and write your own damn music! just kidding. stevie probably made more money off those two using his tunes than he did in his entire career. keep those royalties rolling in! im having a innervisions listening right now. forgot about that dual harmonica solo on too high. and the funkily crip drumming. good stuff.
i too am busting out Innervision tonight. and Music Of My Mind. I like early to mid 70's Stevie. 60's Stevie was pretty boring with the occasional gem on a record, and I already said howi feel about 76 on.
damn, i forgot about "lately!" i always start to cry-eye, when i hear than song. this thread inspired me to rip my entire TV-wonder collection and make a killer auto-playlist in iTunes...
He's got a ton of great tunes. I agree with a lot of those mentioned. I would also add 'I Wish' to the list. I'm a sucker for that song. ::::Edit:::: I'm brain dead right now. I didn't see it in the options to vote for, or I would have. I voted for Sir Duke, which also is a great one. Sorry for the waste.
