Found some more errors. All the season FTA stats I got from 82games don't match the FTA's the record shows up to 64 games. The difference could be that 82games stats are daily feeds therefore already calculate the stats YTD.

Here's the season stats through 64 games:

    Player -- FGA/Game -- FTA/Game (1-64 games)
    Sura -- 8.4 -- 3.3
    James -- 12.2 -- 1.8
    Barry -- 5.4 -- 2.4
    Wesley -- 9.2 -- 2.2
    McGrady -- 21.3 -- 7.1
    Wspoon -- 1.8 -- .5
    Padgett -- 3 -- .6
    Yao -- 12.3 -- 6.1
    Deke -- 2.8 -- 1.5
    Bowen -- 1.3 -- .2
    Howard -- 8.9 -- 1.9

I did another check to try and calculate team eFGA (counting FGA+(FTA/2)) and this is what I came back with:

Team Season eFGA= 95-98/game (if you drop Padgett out of the calculation or not)

    Last 3 Games eFGA= 90/game

In short even though our FTA's are up a bit we are still missing about 5-8 effective shot attempts per game.

Assuming about .451 pct (JHO's pct) that's about 5-7 points a game we are losing from our offense (and at best 10-16 points).

    (A) So it looks like we've tried to keep the game plan about the same offensively in terms of balanced production but have tried to get Yao to increase his production in the absence of JHO.

    (B) That being said we still are short by 5-8 shot attempts per game offensively.

    (C) This lack of offensive production on the surface does not appear to be the root cause of the recent skid but rather the poor shooting .pct from the perimeter basis evaluating our 3PM and our guards shooting pct's .

Here's the kicker though. Is our perimeter shooting actually not as consistent as we believe? We all know that perimeter shots on the average are lower .pct shots. Looking at the our .pct the average looks good overall from our guards but the problem of averages is that you don't see the streakiness / ups & downs. If that's indeed the case then the 5-8 attempts we are missing inside as well as mid-range J's could be vitally important.

You are saying, then, that we bag this season and try again next fall. If you are, I would have to agree. Management gambled at PF and lost. Signing Braggs did nothing, he probably won't even play. They did a masterful job of getting some guards, but PF was a weak spot even before Cato was traded and they did little or nothing to fix it. That decision probably cost us this season if what I have seen lately is any indication.

Uh, no. We have no reason to give up this season, unless we we want to try and fall out of the playoff and win the lotto balls again. (Dripping sarcasm). Any team with Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, and 4 guys hovering around 40%+ 3P% territory is dangerous.

The fact is, Juwan Howard is a career 17-7 PF coming off a 17-7 season. We also had Mo Taylor coming off an effective season. The roster was loaded with holes and PF was hardly the biggest one. We simply didn't have enough assets to fill them all during the course of one season- fixing up the entire 4 man backcourt rotation (Sura, James, Wesley, Barry) and the backup center spot with Deke after making such a huge trade to acquire the superstar SF in TMac takes a lot of assets. CD patched as much as he could, and frankly, I'm impressed- he re-engineered our entire backcourt! This summer, Spoon, Baker, and Moochie become assets expiring contracts, and we have a first round pick at our disposal- and significantly fewer holes.

MoT flopped, and Howard wasn't productive till January.

Howard will be back, and we will be dangerous again. As I said, we just saw a game where Yao couldn't rebound, TMac couldn't shoot, and we got a pretty fat zero from the 4 spot...and if we make our free throws, we could have won.
