It really depends on how Kosher they keep. I eat steak all the time, but I don't eat lobster because it's not Kosher. Is the person very strict in Judaism? If so, a steak would probably be a bad idea, unless you went to a special store made specifically for kosher meat.

On second thought, if the person is very very observant, I'm not sure if the steak would even be ok because of rules on slaughtering. But, definitely no lobster unless they are going out of their way to break the Law. I know quite a few atheist Jews who want to be sure to disavow everything about their religion, and have no problem forsaking the preparation rules and yet still can't bring themselves to eat forbidden food or mix meat and dairy.

So definitely no lobster, and -- if the person is very orthodox -- maybe you'll consider a watch instead.

The meat/milk thing stems from a quote in the Torah which says "you shall not eat any goat flesh which is boiled in its mother's milk."

The rabbis interpreted this to mean that one should never eat meat and milk (or cheese, butter, etc..) together because it is theoretically possible that the milk came from the mother of the animal whose flesh you are eating. Mixing meat with a mother's milk is a big no-no.
