Just curious. Do they televise all the Rockets games in China? I saw the Chinese writing on the ad banners in the TC and it got me thinking. What percentage of the Rockets games are seen over there?

Don't not sure but I think they get several NBA games a week just like we get on cable. And of those like a total of 25 are Rockets game if my memory is correct.

I'm from China. I think we can watch about 50% of Rockets games this season.

Yeah, all for free:D And depending on where you live, you might get more. If you live in Shanghai like I do, you get NBA games from local Shanghai Sports Channel as well as CCTV.

But the downside is, with the time difference, most games starts at 9:30am here, just when we get to work!:(

My colleagues and I take very early lunchs when there is a rocket game on, say around 11:00am! Sometimes even blatantly call in sick...:p

I guess I should answer this one since I know.

52- 56 regular season games are broadcast over between 14-16 different channels (i'm not sure which deals the NBA continued from last season and which are new). But that includes both home and away (obviously).

Some of the channels I can remember of the top of my head are:

CCTV 2 - national free-to-air channel - this reaches 287 million television households. (meaning it reaches more households than the population of the us)

CCTV5 - cable sports channel - 55 million tv households

then of course - a lot of provincial and city stations. Not every station will broadcast all 50-some games - most will broadcast only one NBA game a week (and that might or might not be a Rockets game) - some broadcast two. Shanghai TV has a special deal which allows them to broadcast a lot more Rockets games than any other channel.

Still it's free. Here in the states, outside Houston, you only get about 25 games televised on TV nationally, and some of them are early starts like 4:30 in the afternoon for people living on the west coast. So I will take very early dinner when there is a rocket game on say around 6 pm! Sometimes even blantantly leave work early or call in sick...

So is Shanghai like the second hometown for the Rox? Everybody wears Rockets gear and highlights on the news?

When I run this program I see a list of channels. How can I actually play a channel? The play button is always disabled...?

One honest critique, why do I see more Dave Beckham billboards in Shanghai than Yao?

after you see a list of channel on coolstreaming, doubleclick a channel(e.g. cctv-5), then microsoft media player will automatically pop up. the version of your microsoft media player has to be at least 10.0(for winxp) or 9(for win2k).
it might be faltering in the begining minutes. after that, it would get fluent.

It's probably just Adidas spends a lot more money than Reebok in advertising in Shanghai.

I think it's safe to say, not only Shanghai but the entire country is Rox's second home town...

This won't work. NBA won't allow another public broadcast of the games. So you have to have the secret addresses to see them.

My friend recommended me the coolstream. It works better when more people use it.
So It works best when Rox game is on. ;)

uhhh... because David Beckham is the most popular sports figure on the planet? and a damn-near irresistibly sexy guy to boot?

Hey, not to detract from Yao and my beloved Rockets, but I just find it hard to imagine little schoolgirls in China/Japan/India/SAmerica/any place in Europe, screaming "Take me home!" to anyone on the Rockets... (esp. ever since we traded away Boki :( )

just one more question.. coolstream seems really slow for me even though i have dsl. i suppose this is because the ports it's listening on are being blocked by my firewall. does anyone know what ports i'm suppose to unblock for this application?
