For those of you that remember, Korleone Young went in the NBA Draft straight out of high school, and was drafted in the second round by the Pistons (#40 overall). Ironically, he was selected the pick right before Cuttino Mobley. He had zero impact. He and Leon Smith have become the poster boys for high schoolers flopping in the pros. They cite these two as to why high schooler should go to college rather than the pros unless they are a lock for the top 5. Anyhow, he's playing for the Lakers in the Pro League this summer. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Apparently, he's switched from power forward to small forward and looked ok in his first summer league game. The Lakers don't look like they need him, but some team might give him a shot this season. I also heard Penny looked like crap and had little lateral quickness. ------------------ Ya ot be opredelennyj chelovek zhivoj [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited July 08, 2001).]
Heard that also, but the Boston Globe said he looked pretty good... We know it's July, but the Suns are keeping their collective fingers crossed after watching Penny Hardaway play in summer league action in California. Early reports were encouraging for Hardaway, who missed 78 games last season after left knee surgery and has missed 185 games because of assorted ailments over the last five years. ''Outside of being rusty, basketball-wise, I was impressed with the way he was running and exploded a couple of times going into the lane,'' Suns GM Bryan Colangelo told the Arizona Republic. Added Hardaway, ''It was a good first step.'' Hardaway is playing in a Nike League on a team sponsored by the Hornets' Baron Davis. The Celtics' Paul Pierce also has a team. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET [This message has been edited by Clutch (edited July 08, 2001).]
#1 Do you think the writer for the Boston Globe really saw him play? #2 If he didn't see him play, those 'early reports' mentioned are most likley the quotes which follow, and what is Colangelo going to say? Penny was horrible? I think more likely this 'positive report' is little more than filler for the globe's writer. ------------------
Out of curiosity, what happened to Leon Smith? I mean, where is he now? I know the Rockets were working with him a few years ago, and there was talk we'd pick him up. He was getting his life back together, and the Rockets organization was taking care of him. ------------------ CC.net's most courteous driver Oh yeah, and I'm looking for a job right now, so hire me please
He was just drafted two years ago in 99 so if he matures and can show some potential in the cba or over seas he may yet have a career but I'm not holding my breath. ------------------
I hadn't heard that Penny looked bad. If that's true, then maybe Colangelo's comments are evidence that he's shoppping him to Memphis or elsewhere. That would complete the expulsion of run-n-GUN guys like him, Kidd, and C-Rob. ------------------ KanHoop "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" -- George W.
