Possible NBDL, CBA or Free Agent help...

With Juwan out for an extended period of time, it is conceivable that CD and JVG will be looking for temporary PF help to assist in carrying the load up front. I do not have much confidence in Vin Baker so I went fishing and here is what I found.

So far many NBDL players have had some success this season including (and not limited to) Matt Carroll, (Roanoke) scored a team-high 18 points in 23 minutes for the Bobcats against LAL; Obinna Ekezie (Columbus) started his 20th game for the Hawks since being called up on January 10 and Devin Brown (Fayetteville) had 8 points and 6 assists in 28 minutes for the Spurs against Denver.

So there could be help out there and with GM of the year in CD, we can now expect something special from him again.

Edit: Hiram Fuller instead of Kirk Hasten.

Not that Bateer is even a viable alternative, but he was living in Sugar Land for a while, before he went to play for the Huntsville Team. However, *most* recently, my friends saw him back in China - he made an appearance at the CBA All-Star game and even played in it.

Other possible temporary help out there include Toraye Braggs, Alton Ford [??], Ruben Boumtje Boumtje [??], Corie Blount [??], Eldon Cambell [??], Sam Clancy, Travis Knight, Jayson Williams etc.

I can't remember the kid's name that is playing in China right now. He is an ex-con or something but is putting up unbelieveable numbers. Anyone else remember his name?

I liked Braggs when we had him at the begining of the season.

Wasn't that last season? Either way, he played hard and made some things happen when he was on the court. I wouldn't mind having him back.

Lee Benson. If I see a thread about him, I might shoot myself.

Fegwu, your post mentions Kirk Haston but the paragraph was about someone else. Haston was the ultimate first round flameout- didn't last to year 3 of his rookie contract.

Alton Ford would be an interesting pick because he has experience next to Yao.

The guy I'd go for is Ralph's nephew, Jamal Sampson. Hell of a rebounder- cut because of attitude problems. His 17.8 rebounds per 48 minutes would be 2nd in the league behind Reggie Evans. I'd take a Sam Clancy or a Corie Blount. I viewed Clancy as very similar to Udonis Haslem in college.

Campbell is already resigned, and Knight is a stiff of a center, not a 4.

Haislip's a stick, and not very bright. Donnell Harvey is a decent name. Not a chance of Leon Smith.

Many teams in the association are in need of PF help. With that said... it is unlikely that at this point in the season there is anyone in the NBDL, CBA or who is a free agent who might provide help imo. Great list though.

I think those of us who were down on Howard are starting to realize how important he is to us. Baker could make a great story... we will see. Spoon is not a viable option. Padgett is a fan favorite and could be a stop gag. But he is not a post player which is what we need.

Should be an interesting/painful/suprising four weeks.

I like Blount's rebounding which could be handy. Harvey isn't a bad choice but Braggs has a fairly decent jumper, can rebound and has the experience of playing for us. He is limited but puts in a good effort.
I always wanted to see Ford succeed but I don't know if he is a hard worker.

NIKE, can you clarify is there is a loophole (say if JH could not return this year) where a PF could be added at this time and still play in the playoffs.

i think we have more than enough to fill Jho's shoes. don't get me wrong. i thougt he was doing a great job. however, his numbers will not be hard to replace with padgett, spoon, bowen, and baker filling in.

we will be fine! this isn't like losing sura.

better ship out Baker right now! at least if we sign another FA, he can play with enthusiasm no matter what minutes will be given to him

I wouldn't mind picking up Braggs - especially since he already knows JVG's system. Right now Baker looks like he's done. He looks 2 steps too slow and lacking confidence in his J.

Let me add two more candidates to the mix:

    1. Jamal Sampson - formerly of the Lakers and Bobcats, Lakers had reluctance in letting him go in expansion draft, as a Bobcat he got his fair share of rebounds/blocks for minutes played

    2. Ousmane Cisse - currently in NBDL with Fayetteville, his game looks to be improving, he also gets his share of rebounds/blocks for minutes played

I like the sound of Braggs. From what I remember in his short stint last season he was a great hustler on the glass, and a pretty physical player. May be too short though...he doesn't do much that Weatherspoon doesn't I don't think.

Bateer is probably too big and too slow. Van Gundy won't put Mutumbo and Yao on the court together, so I doubt Bateer is the answer.

I'd love to have Braggs back. On top of being a hustle player, I remember him moving very without the ball and getting a lot of layups/dunks off feeds from other players. That was a year ago when our ball movement was a tiny fraction what it is now. I could see a player like Torraye fitting in quite well with this current group.

It would be awsome if the Rockets could get Braggs to help out while Juwan is out. I liked that guy. Where is he right now anyways?
