certainly does have a police like sound

also very stripped back and almost absent is the normal DMB full sound, also really not sure about the lyrics

well..it's music. and people have different tastes. i don't know why they irritate you. they're talented musicians. i think their music is creative, particularly coming out of the grunge era where seemingly every new band sounded like the one before it. they fuse some jazz in and have a bit of an eclectic sound to them. i personally find the lyrics interesting. and their live shows are just ridiculously good. if you like their music even a little bit, you would love them live.

DMB on the radio probably ruined it for you. I am not a big fan but DMB is so much more than what you hear on the radio.

WRT to their live shows, I have never been. But they are one of the few 90s acts to have built a huge live following. When they tour they do very well and always rate as one of the top money making tours. All of this from a band with crappy radio songs.

Worth checking out with a fresh set of ears.

i don't really know how to explain it other than they are so NOT punk rock. something to do with the fusion thing and their faux earnestness. i just don't know where they are coming from and that bothers me. i'm not a fan of "jam" bands and i guess they fit in this category. i'm not even saying they are not worthy of admiration, just that they don't float my boat.

no, and i knew that comment would be taken the wrong way. i just kinda see them as p***y-footing around rather than taking a straightforward approach to what they want to say. i am just more of a minimalist and less inclined towards abstraction for no good reason.

to each his own. i mean, there's good music out there that I don't particularly like. i'm having a hard time even understanding what you're saying here.

he uses metaphor in his lyrics, to be sure. but he's hardly indirect. but i'm not sure if that's what you're saying, here. because DMB's strength isn't necessarily song lyrics but rather the composition of the talent behind the instruments.

all good. probably a silly argument anyway...how in the world can i convince you to like music you find irritating?? :) how in the world can you convince me the music i love isn't good? not gonna happen either way. all i can say is give the rest of their stuff a listen. borrow before these crowded streets from a friend and see what you think.

DMB isn't quite one of my favorite bands but nonetheless still happen to have every song they've ever made (as a band or Dave by himself). They are a pretty good band, and I don't comprehend how people could be annoyed by their music. Not liking it is one thing, but annoying?

I've never really understood the DMB facination myself. But I'll admit I've only heard their radio songs. The "much better in concert" thing is probably true, but I wouldn't pay money to go hear a band live that is just OK, to me, from what I've heard so far. Nor would I purchase a "live" CD for the same reason.

Ah, its a conundrum wrapped in a riddle.

I too, am one of those people that does not understand the fascination with the DMB. I was never a fan, nor was I annoyed by them, but after going to one of their concerts, the most recent one at the Pavillion, I must say they SUCK and they are not better in concert. Imagine spending $7 for beer and listening to the radio, that was was what their concert experience is like. Don't get me wrong, the people around me and a friend of mine, all members of the DMB fan club, were having the times of their lives, but I was bored out of my mind. If you aren't wowed by their music, I suggest stay as far away from one of their concerts as you can.

Say what you want about whether or not you like DMB, but this is just plain wrong. There may be one or two of their radio songs that sound the same live as they do on the radio. Maybe.

I've also never understood people's obsession with coming into a thread with the sole purpose to **** on the band that fans of that band are talking about. Quit trolling.

listened to it a few times

maybe it is just cause i am a foreigner but i am really struggling to get into a song with the word american in it so many times.. don't know exactly why, like it but certainly don't love it like most everything else DMB has done (including solo stuff)

I like it a lot more with the extended outro. Could become a really good live song.

Obviously you did not go to their most recent Houston concert. I didn't mean to piss in you soup, but in my opnion, their live show is boring. I'm more of a harder rock fan. To each his own. And quit whinning!:(
