The fountain must be saved. It has historic significance as well as being one of the most beautiful landmarks in H-town.

HeyP this is what I found. Although I don't know how accurate it is.

23.Why do the LRT tracks split just north of the Museum District? Has METRO acquired the land for the Wheeler/Blodgett Station in Midtown? The current design shows coverage over the block, will our LRT facility cover the entire block or just the right-of-way for the rail and the station?

Due to community desire to preserve the trees along Main Street in Midtown and Hermann Park areas, and to avoid Mecom Fountain, an alternative route was needed that is also operationally feasible. By transitioning at Wheeler/Blodgett, under the US-59 overpass and travelling on Fannin and San Jacinto, the LRT has the least impact. Although we have not acquired any land yet, six bus bays will be adjacent to the Wheeler/Blodgett Station.

Full questions and answers from Metro rail can be found here.

mc mark, you are correct, it's the triple fountain right by Miller Outdoor Theater.

partner, where'd you hear this news - radio, tv, the little voice in your head? It makes logistical sense, but I sure hope it's not true. It's a beautiful fountain (and it's fun when the Rice students dump soap in it and make it foam up [IMG])

oh no... the spoiled Rice students who pour soap in there every year will have to find other city landmarks to vandalize or steal.

    rockHead,

Not just Rice students dumped soap, or did a little late night nude wading in that Fountain! [IMG]
