I wanted to hear a game in the kitchen while I was making a drink, so I turned on my stereo really loud. I was shocked to hear how much better than game sounded thru an amp and speakers. I can hear the ball hitting the floor and balls hitting the rim quite clearly through my subwoofer. Also hear Rudy, bench players, and fans shouting. I never knew the microphones were so good at NBA games! Most TV programs are broadscast with a SAP (secondary audio program). For the NBA, the SAP audio has Spanish commentary instead of English, or is exactly the same as the primary audio channel. I wish the SAP channel could just have the sounds of the game without the commentary. I'd love the listen to shoes squeaking, rims bending, Rudy shouting, etc w/o Calvin and Bill blathering away. Not trying to diss Spanish. Its great that the NBA broadcasts commentary in other languages. I love the NBA commercial with audio commentary from around the globe. I just think it'd be really cool if we could hear the sounds of the game with commentary on the SAP channel.
For a cool effect, try watching the TV broadcast of the game and muting it. Then turn on the Radio and listen to Gene Peterson Problem is that there is often a delay, so you hear if a shot is made before you see it ------------------ "I am who I am, who I am, well who am I?" -- Dave Matthews Band "Dancing Nancies"
I used to listen to the games via the internet and chat in the BBS at the sametime. Talk about lag (5 minutes)! Now KPRC doesn't broadcast Rockets games over the internet so it's only chat for me. I've done the radio/tv thing. It's pretty cool. Radio goes into a lot more details about the game (stats, descriptions, etc.) so I recommend it. Just mute your TV and turn up your stereo. ------------------ Go West! Life is peaceful there!
I don't wanna listen to ANY commentary. I wish the SAP channel was exclusively "Sounds of the Game". Vengeance, you're saying that the radio broadcast is ahead of the TV broadcast? I've never really listened to both (no tuner in the living room), but I woulda figured that TV would be more real-time...
Go to www.sportsterminal.com and register. You can listen to Rockets games there for free. Registration takes about 5 minutes at the most. ------------------ If you like larger booties, Domanique Sachsa would be on that list as well. --Jeff of SaveMeSomeBooty.com fame in the BBS Hangout forum (hope the man doesn't run for a political position - he's dead meat)
Buy a 10 foot dish. The recievers for these allow you to select different types of audio, such as without voices, sounds of the game only. Then, get a beer and a hot dog and turn that volume up. ------------------ When we tire of well-worn ways, we seek for new. Bob*, have you actually listened to an exclusively "Sounds of the Game" audio broadcast? Makes me very jealous. After seeing half the games in person with no commentary, I'd LOVE to see other half with just video and game sounds. If you've got an amp/speakers w/ good bass response, check out the sound of the rim. Sounds incredible on my digi cable/amp/speakers/sub. They must have a microphone on the board? The same place as the above-rim camera maybe? On a ball that rattles around before it drops, you can HEAR the ball go in. You get this incredible audio reinforcement of the video. Without that damn Calvin, I could turn the sound up loud and enjoy it. I'm willing to pay for no-commentary audio. I already paid for League Pass, and I'd have paid an extra x$ for no commentary audio. Why won't somebody sell that to me? Sucks that I have to buy a big dish and pirate that audio.
My idea has always been to have an incredibly small mic on all of the players and coaches while the game is going on without the commentators. Now THAT is basketball!! ------------------ Five to one baby, one in five...no one here gets, out alive.
Exactly, Pimp. Like those boom microphones they started using over the player/coach huddle during timeouts for the national broadcasts. Great audio of what coaches say duing timeouts. (Riley and Jackasson were really upset about that, right?) More microphones in more better places and less Calvin!
