he has to get it. look at the stats: 3/6 @ Dallas - 32 pts (11-22), 10 rebs, 5 asts - 90-69 victory 3/8 @ Seattle - 35 pts (14-27), 8 rebs, 5 asts, 4 stls, 0 trns - 97-95 victory 3/11 @ Phoenix - 38 pts (16-27), 9 rebs, 6 asts - 127-107 victory average - 35pts, 9rebs, 5.3asts, 3-0 for the week. does anyone remember how many times he was player of the week or month this season? if he keeps up his play he will put himself in the middle of MVP talk.
Whoa. Great stats against great teams. The question is, do those games fall within the date constraints for the "week"? Stuart
sunday the 6th - friday the 11th. i believe it does. if not, then the average of the last to games with out the first one only improves his average. then he would need a good game today just to be sure.
Dallas game last Sunday will not count. The games against Seattle, Phoenix and today's against Sacramento will be the factored games.
If we win today against the Kings, either TMac or Yao will get the POW award. If both of them have a good game today, I don't see why they cannot get a co-player of the week award. Tmac's number is impressive. Yao's 27-22-5 against the Suns were monster number. He and Tracy were also the deciding factor in 4th quarter against Seattle. If Yao gets 25-11 today, he has a chance.
Since the POW comes out on mondays, the "week" starts off on that monday and goes until sunday. Since the Mavs game was last sunday, it won't be counted for this coming week. But if we win today and T-mac pulls down some decent numbers, then he'll be a shoo-in. They take into account wins, and 3 huge wins with super numbers would make him a lock. Has anyone seen his stats lately. With his strong March showings, T-Mac is up to 25.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 6 apg. And he's bumped up his fg% to .434 This man is unreal.
T-Mac is used to it, I wish Yao would get it to boost his confidence even further. The real impressive stat for T-Mac are not even his points, but rather his rebounding AND his impressive field goal % in that stretch. His stroke has been deadly in the past few games, it's been an absolute pleasure watching this team play this season, and a huge part of it has been due to T-Mac, he is....well, Magical (sorry Magic )
BTW, last time a player got 20-20-5 was Shaq daddy last the Bucks in the March of 2004. Yao's 27-22-5 was against the best or second best team in the league. I do believe that if he has a huge game today, we will see co-player of the week tomorrow.
TMac deserves to get it but he'll have some competition from Kobe. Hopefully they'll look at the higher quality of teams we've played and beaten compared to the Lakers.
If Kobe wins it, that will be another example of the NBA bias in favor of LA. T-Mac played just as good (if not better), and the most important thing is that the Rockets beat the BEST teams in the league in this stretch: Dallas, Sonics, Suns, Kings. Can the Lakers match that?
The nba is not as biased as the LA media. TMAC has already clinched the POW after today's ROX win over SAC. The problem is if we can see co-POW or not.
T-Mac averaged 31.7 PTS, 6.0 AST, 7.5 REBS, 53.3% FG%, 2 ST Yao Averaged 22.0 PTS, 1.3 AST, 10.7 REBS, 57.1% FG%, 1 ST, 3 BLKS
I hope both Yao and T-Mac get POW. Although Yao's number is not as impressive as T-Mac, he has superb and clutch performance in the 4th quarter against Seattle and Phoenix which is the main reason why we won these 2 games. But I would also happy if either Yao or T-Mac wins this award.
I think he wins it. Rockets go 4-0 (against the elite of the W.C) and he averages 30+ pts. Cant see anyone else winning it.
It's a lock for Tmac. No one else is closer this week than Kobe ... and the Lakers blow. I don't think Yao gets co-POW honors, though. He had three average (for him) games and one monster game (Phoenix - 27-22-5). Yes, he was great this week, and yes, his assertiveness took a step forward (hopefully for good), but the stats (which is what the 'award' is based upon) aren't there. I personally count this as a great week for Yao and his development ... but his real improvement doesn't show up on the stat sheet in this case.
