It was only half of the interview. The 2nd half will be showed at halftime during the game today on ABC Basically a recap: Yao was just talking about being in Houston is like being at work, and being in China is going home. He was asked about not being able to speak english well when he first came here and how that affected him and his teammates. Yao went on to say theres a lot of trash talk on the court and he doesnt get himself involved in that. He said a few times hes murmured some trash talk in Chinese Favorite food is Chinese chicken soup His favorite show is NBA Inside Stuff (which he wasn't prompted to say by Ahmad) Coming up in the 2nd half of the interview... This season and his pairing with T-mac
BTW, why the hate against Ahmad? I like the guy a lot, I think he is the perfect guy to interview players, because players like him and get along with him. I just like his persona overall, he is not confrontational, that is not his style, so if you are looking for that, you will be disappointed. Besides, Ahmad probably has more access to athletes than anyone else in the business. He is a 'celebrity' in his own right. I don't think you will see Jim Gray getting invited to the Jordan invitational anytime soon May be that is why athletes get along with him and give him access so easily.
Yao also said his favorit NBA moment is the time he scored 40 against Atlanta, and the worse moment is his first NBA game.
He comes off as an ass-kisser to me, and tries too hard. I am not a big fan at all. When I was an NBA junkie, I watched Inside Stuff religiously, in spite of my dislike for Rashad. Stuart
I like Ahmad. It seems like he likes and enjoys Yao. I do. Yao..referring to 1st game against Indiana: "I didn't do nothing" HAHA Yao's favorite TV show..: NBA Inside Stuff (of course) The guys doing the Mavs/Twolves game said Rockets are playing at excellent level or something.
I see your side but I still say "Meh" about Mrs. Huxtable's hubby. What you like about him is why don't think much of him. I'm not asking for an antagonistic style of reporting but not a soft peddler either. You know, with Bill Walton, he is such a strange guy that I can never get a good read on him. I don't think anyone can figure out him out as an analyst. But his Rockets comment was just too convenient and easy to say at the time.
the reason people don't like ahmad is because he is a sleazy guy. and an ass kisser. i hate guys like that in real life, i hate guys like that as commentators. bill walton is funny, i love his 'that was the worst shot in houston rockets history' after eddie griffin missed a three a couple years back... t cracked me up.
I'm sorry. What does sleazy mean? LOL yeah walton I REMEMBER THAT...that was hilarious..funny whenever he would say something about Cato that Kelvin did wrong..lol Those were good days..I remember playoffs against Lakers..Bill Walton covered the games..good stuff Can't wait til Calvin comes back..if he does
Recap of second part of interview... Yao says he thinks he is behind Amare in development right now. He thinks he has to improve on his speed. He says he was upset when steve was traded, but he knew T-Mac was great, and he is amazed by T-Mac's abilities. He says this fits with his game in that teams have to double-team one of them, and that relieve lots of pressure off them. He says he is comfortable when they win, and the important thing is to "play the right way" (Someone is plagiarizing JVG's ideas ) He also said when he is not playing basketball, he is playing video games (I was hoping Ahmad would ask him what his favorite game was, but alas he didn't ) When asked if he thought the Rockets could go deep in the playoffs, Yao (in a typical Yao fashion/style) said "Sounds good", and Ahmad got a laugh outta that.
That's something that he *has* improved on. He's able to come out on the perimeter and double the guards and then get back quick to his man in the paint. That type of mobility was unheard of two years ago.
Walton: "I think this is the best week in Houston Rockets history." Hubie: "Oh yeah, it's way better than those championships in '94 and '95..." Bill just looked at him all flustered. Haha...that guy says everything in the extreme...
