AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Chris Webber, one of the NBA's most sought-after free agents this summer, met with Detroit Pistons president Joe Dumars for two hours Friday. "I told him how much we want him in a Pistons' uniform next season," Dumars said in a statement, adding they will talk again next week. In an interview with The Sacramento Bee early in the week, Webber, who led Michigan to consecutive NCAA championship games, said he will take his time deciding where he wants to play. Webber told the newspaper he has been contacted by 12 to 15 teams since July 1 and has no idea where he will play next season. The Sacramento Kings, who Webber played for last season, will offer him a contract worth more than $120 million over seven years -- the largest possible deal under the NBA's salary cap. Only a handful of teams can offer Webber anything close to that amount, and at least two of them -- the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls -- appear to be out of the running because of the moves they made on draft day. The Orlando Magic have cleared salary-cap space, but they may not have enough to entice Webber. Orlando is directing its recruiting efforts at Toronto center Antonio Davis. Detroit, Indiana, Miami and the New York Knicks also are known to be interested in Webber. "I had a very good meeting with Chris Webber," Dumars said. "I consider the meeting a very positive step in attempting have Chris play basketball in Detroit for the Pistons." No way Webb signs with the Pistons. Hometown, or not Webber wants to play for a contender. Brickhouse and Co. would need a lot more help than just Webber to contend.
