Just curious cause I'm an old guy. Tomorrow's the big day! How do you feel about the new SATs? I didn't do great, but I didn't do too bad. 1160. But that was when the high score was 1600. And I had great grades and a ****load of extracurriculas. (Is that a word?) Now it's 2400 with an essay?
2400 with an essay!! HA! Wow, that really sucks. I'm really glad I graduated high school last year, man. Tough one, high schoolers...
Oh that's right, tomorrow is the first of the "new" SATs. I'm proctoring tomorrow, so I've got to read up on what's changed . . . http://www.collegeboard.com/newsat/index.html Here's the changes: essay no analogies shorter reading quantitative comparisons gone "new" math stuff?
1410 in the hizz-ouse. Totally blew an academic scholarship to UT. Oops. Damn that Rockets game was sick. stunning and perfect.
1460 a lot of EE knowledge and no job the SAT's are useless. I got in to UT through top 10 rule anyway. At least I got a scholarship out of it.
What did you do? There's no more analogies..so bye bye vocab. But still sentence completions I guess. The math is supposed to be more advanced. Good luck to everyone taking it
Not horrible but not top 10% grades in highschool. But a 1430 SAT and a state qualification in debate got me into UT's EE program. Also making the team for a couple of the academic competition helped. Man that was 4 years ago, seems just like yesterday that I was sweating about how college is going to be like, now I'm going to look for renting apartments, living on my own and wondering how the work force is going to be like.
I did a 1240 back in 1972 when a 1240 really meant something! 680 Math and 560 Verbal--- crazy. I think if I had taken it a second time, I would have gotten close to 1400. My verbal skills have always exceeded my math skills. I'm amazed at how smart the collection of people here is... it's kind of daunting.
So, I proctored the "new" SAT this morning . . . I only have one thought -- WAY TOO F-ING LONG!!!! It was a long test before, and then they add 45 minutes to it? The total came out to be 225 minutes of testing -- 7 sections of 25 minutes, two 20 minute sections, and one 10 minute. Got there at 7:45, didn't leave until almost 2:00. It's "easy" money ($90), but they only raised it $7 for an extra hour or so of testing. I'm just glad it's over. It's almost as exhausting proctoring the test as it is taking it. As a proctor, it used to be that you were supposed to stand at all times. I didn't realize until about an hour left that the rule has been changed to allow you to sit, but not for extended periods. That was nice, and a big bonus over past years, where you stand for about four hours basically watching the clock. And you can't do anything -- no reading, no writing, nothing. Just watch the students take the test. B-O-R-I-N-G. I hate proctoring the SAT, but the way I see it is that if can just zone out for a few hours, it'll all pass quickly. What with it being about an hour longer now, it sucks hardcore.
1390. Got into Dartmouth with that.....but Vandy had much hotter gals and better weather....not like I studied anyway.
1480 perfect on math 680 on verbal but i picked up some kids at the school today and they told me about the new test and i am damn glad i didnt have to take the new version
