Eh, I'm bored, like to talk music, and must say I believe it goes a little more like this: Some of the best: Led Zeppelin The Beatles Nirvana AC/DC The Rolling Stones Great, Great Bands: Aerosmith U2 The Who Metallica Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) Bands Worth A Damn: Red Hot Chili Peppers Pearl Jam Guns N Roses R.E.M. Soundgarden Pink Floyd The Doors ZZ Top Van Halen Queen Bands who I really don't know enough about to fully, fairly judge: Depeche Mode The Police KISS The Cure Grateful Dead The Eagles Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers The Clash Black Sabbath The Ramones Rush The Cars
Bracket A: 1) The Beatles 8) Ouch... Rush and Van Halen were my 2 favorite bands in high school. Tough call. Ugh... I guess I'll pick Rush. 5) Rush 4) 6) The Cure 3) 7) 2) The Eagles Bracket B: 1) The Rolling Stones 8) 12) Soundgarden 4) 6) 3) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 7) Red Hot Chili Peppers 2) Bracket C: 1) Led Zeppelin 8) 5) 4) AC/DC 11) 3) ZZ Top 7) 2) Aerosmith Bracket D: 1) Pink Floyd 8) 5) Pearl Jam 4) 11) 3) Metallica 10) 2) Queen

Look at all the votes REM's been getting- damn, I had always assumed that the vast majority of the board was heterosexual. KISS isn't really a band, they're superheroes that play rock-n-roll. Sucks to lose to a band like Soundgarden, but I'm not surprised really. Thank God AC/DC and VH are winning- it gives me hope for the board. I'm a little surprised Aerosmith is winning- one of my toughest calls. In the end, "Rocks" is just too good. Sucks Metallica's getting taken down by The Police. Ick. Supposed to be Battle of the Bands, not the Bores. I thought Def Leppard would fare better. They did it as good and well before GnR.
I'm looking at this "contest," and it's striking which groups aren't in any of the original brackets. I'll give one amazing omission (don't hate me, Manny!)... The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Come on! How were they left out? Am I the only member here who actually went to their concerts in Houston? Truly? He played there 4 times. (the last was with Band of Gypsies... wow!) Why the heck isn't that group in one of the brackets? And it was a group. Noel Redding (bass) and Mitch Mitchell (drums) were superb. With all the "power trios" mentioned, why weren't they? They only happened to be the best, IMO. Manny, you can blame my rant on Chance, who got me thinking about how to group these bands together, and caused me to ponder who was left off. (I had already pondered it some, but shrugged, and figured, "What tha hell? It's for fun!") Sorry Chance. I'm really not trying to bust your chops. Rant over.
Hey Deckard, I got a proposition for you that might interest you. Email me at manny_ramirez73@yahoo.com for details.
LMAO, spoken like a true rocker. The bands that are left fall into 3 categories for me: great, solid, and don't care for Great: The Beatles Rush The Doors The Cure (even though their later stuff has been weak) The Rolling Stones REM (mainly due to their early stuff) Nirvana The Who Led Zeppelin The Clash Pink Floyd U2 (even though their later stuff has been weak) Queen Solid: Van Halen (although Van Hagar almost knocks them down to "Don't Care For") Soundgarden AC/DC (they pretty much sucked after "Back in Black" but were untouchable before then) Black Sabbath (they pretty much sucked once Ozzy left but were untouchable before then) CCR ZZ Top (they ruined themselves with "Eliminator" and beyond with the damn MTV and f*cking drum machines - would have been great if it wasn't for that) The Ramones Depeche Mode (if only for "People Are People") Pearl Jam (first 2 albums get them this designation) The Police (could be higher if they had more than 5 albums) Metallica (almost falls in the last category due to the schlock they have been releasing of late - not the same band as the one that did "Master of Puppets" - that one kicked ass) The Cars (any decent New Wave Band is going to be solid with me) Don't Care For: Guns N Roses (mainly due to the prick that is known as W. Axyl Rose) The Eagles Grateful Dead KISS (like maybe one song - "Lick It Up") Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (also like maybe one song - "Running Down a Dream") Red Hot Chili Peppers (ugh) Aerosmith (if they had retired before the '90s, they would probably be a solid band for me) Update time - through Hydra's picks: The Beatles 39, Guns N Roses 10 Van Halen 30, Rush 17 The Doors 31, The Cure 18 The Eagles 29, Grateful Dead 18 Rolling Stones 34, REM 15 Soundgarden 30, KISS 17 Nirvana 34, Tom Petty 15 The Who 31, RHCP 18 Led Zeppelin 38, The Clash 10 AC/DC 29, Black Sabbath 20 CCR 28, ZZ Top 21 Aerosmith 27, The Ramones 21 Pink Floyd 40, Depeche Mode 9 U2 34, Pearl Jam 14 The Police 29, Metallica 18 Queen 41, The Cars 7
Manny, Manny, Manny... AC/DC: Ever listened to "For those about to Rock" Album? "Fly on The Wall"? "Razor's Edge"? I'll agree that they fell after that, but Brian Johnson is much more renouned as the voice of AC/DC. It's no longer Bon Scott, although he was awesome. I can recite literally any song they've written before 1990. And you "ugh" on the RHCP's? Now it is you who is uninformed. Try "Freaky Styley" Then "Uplift Mofo Party Plan" Then "Mother's Milk" Seriously, in high school, it was the RHCP's and The Cult. Speaking of which, The Cult should have definitely been included over half of the introduced bands, damnit!
