This thread reminds me of the Texas Independence one. Again someone posts something right, Fatty tells them to do their research before posting something wrong (implying they're making a fool of themselves) and is then proven wrong himself (making an even bigger fool of himself). I think Fatty needs to read a BBS history book and learn to do his own due dilligence before throwing stones. Way to go on the smoking ban, Houston. One more reason for me not to live there.
All bars and restaurants in Ontario are non-smoking and I couldn't be happier. Going out is suddenly fun again. Ban ban ban ban ban!!!!!!
To be fair, This was voted down a month ago. I had no idea it would be brought up again so soon. Fine, I look foolish. But I have been paying close attention to it.
No big deal, FFB. Wouldn't have even mentioned it if it weren't for your snarky "somebody needs to do their due dilligence" thing and its similarity to your condescending faux pas in the Texas thread.
I don't smoke and don't particularly like being around smokers. That being said, as a society we need to be very careful about removing rights from people (in this case...the right to smoke). If you remove this right from people, what will be removed next? The right to eat fatty foods? So many argue that you have the right to clean air, right? Well, in my opinion, I can't remember the last time I was in a public place, other than a bar, where I felt I couldn't just walk across the place to get away from the smoke. For me, the smoking bans already in place were working just fine and this was a non-issue.
Personally, I think it should be up to the owner of the establishment on whether they allow smoking or not. It would suck to be a smoker and not be able to smoke in your own bar or restaraunt.
Or be the owner of a cigar bar, store etc. How could you possibly be allowed that freedom in America?
This should be moved to D&D before it gets ugly. Anyways.. ive been praying for the day that it's banned completely. I dont have anything against smokers except for that the crap they puff makes me and most of my family sick. I haven't been able to enjoy going out to a bar in the past few months because my allergies are extra sensitive during this time of year. If I do go out, the smoke makes me cough for a freakin week. For now I can deal with the restaurant ban. My dad, who has had 2 heart attacks, can't even stand being near a smoking section of a restaurant with decent air ventilation. Just saw on the news.. the restaurant ban starts 6 months from today and they will discuss the matter again in 18 months. Bill White says that if he serves for 6 years that it is inevitable that smoking will be gone completely in bars.
