Anybody have this game? I bought this for XBOX yesterday, and though I obsessively played it till 4 AM, I found it a little disappointing. The "haymaker" thing adds a ridiculously arcadey aspect into things and seems to turn most matches into "Rocky" style brawls. Only the very fastest fighters (Roy Jones, Hopkins, etc) seem to have a chance of outboxing anybody.
if it's anything like fight night (the original)...you'll learn that the haymaker and stuff doesn't matter. the main thing is blocking, rotating the body, and high percentage hitting. the reason i'm not buying the new one is because the fighters list is too much the same and any game that doesn't have the current champ isn't an upgrade on the original anyways. oh, and i wouldn't mind seeing mike tyson in the game either.
I have it for Xbox as well, I bought it along with MVP Baseball '05. The Haymaker crap sucks! I also suck so thats probably why
I didn't play Fight Night 2004, but from what I understand between the two the "Haymaker" aspect has been jacked up considerably in both power and frequency of use by the AI. THe big problem is that the computer will just toss 15-30 a round and not lose any stamina from it other than the momentary drop in punching power. It's a little cheap IMO.
possibly cheap, but haymakers lead to the most one punch knockouts. if you learn how to dodge it, then hit on his way back to setting up - like, using an uppercut or something - he'll either get extremely hurt or possibly knocked out. you can also block and then go straight to the uppercut.
I can't wait to pick this one up. I've got the first one and LOVE that game. Multiplayer just does not get old. I'm sure the haymaker isn't bad and you'll actually come to like it after you play the game enough.
Another gripe I have is no custom soundtracks! I want to be able to choose my ring entrance music, not listen the same 4-5 "EA Traxxx" every time. But honestly it's not as bad a game as I make it out to be, the "cutman" feature is a pretty cool addition. The reason why I'm bummed out by some of the deficiencies is that they seem to be symptomatic of what EA usually does - make games arcadey to appeal to wider audiences at the expese of realistic gameplay (the haymaker thing) and to do things on the cheap and rush out one version for all consoles and not bother to take advantage of the xbox (the soundtracks thing). I'm pretty much done with EA after this game I think. I'm a bit spoiled with realistic gameply because for the last month I've been heavily playing Winning Eleven 8 International - that game takes realism and simulation to whole other level.
I can understand the soundtrack gripe. If the soundtrack is anywhere near as good as last year's then it's not needed (least for me). Those were all tight rap songs they had on it last year. I went and downloaded all the ones I didn't already have. A little more would be nice, though. I don't like EA either except for games where there's no competition, i.e. Tiger Woods 2005, Fight Night 1&2.
The songs are pretty good, there should just be more of them if they aren't going to give us custom, IMO.
No your not...thats just what everyone says and then BOOM! They've got the whole 2006 sports lineup in their room Winning Eleven is the same game by the people who make Pro Evolution Soccer? I heard alot about PES
I bought the game last week, and although I never owned the first version, I pretty much dominated this game and figured the ins and outs in two nights. The haymaker is gay. I created a boxer in career mode then fought through the ranks and won the middleweight, welterweight and lightweight titles by using the haymaker 95% of the time. When they swing, block or lean to the left or right then come with the haymaker/uppercut. Even my round with Hopkins didn't last past the 5th round doing this. Hell, I even used my boxer and fought Ali...and the damn ref called the fight due to my excessive beating of Ali. I always did the 'quick train' and built up my power then speed. I never lost power until my fighter reached age 43. By then I grew bored of the same weight class and started over in the heavyweight division. Much tougher the higher you move up, but still too easy to figure out. As for the music, it's ok, but there are only about 8 tracks to choose from and it gets old real fast. Excellent graphics though. If I had to do it over again I would have just rented it...although it is fun to dominate my buddies with the haymaker and watch 'em tear up and whine.
Yeah Winning Eleven is the same game as PES just a different name. It is an awesome sim, the only drawback is that it doesn't have the full FIFA licenses (only for the Dutch, Spanish & Italian leagues - so the EPL for example has "Man Red" instead of Man U.) and no XBL support - However you can edit them to be correct, or more simply download customized rosters via an action replay card with the right names of clubs/players and the right uniforms.
Winky Wright, Cotto I think is new too, probably a few more but I'm not that familiar with the old roster.
Few XBOX games actually make use of the soundtrack thing. This has been a gripe of mine for a long time. In any case; in Fight Night 2004, the game - like few boxing games before it - actually makes defense, blocking, dodging and moving important. The haymakers do not change this. If anything, you are punished more if you are unable to fight with a complete skillset. If you aren't going to really do any smart dodging, blocking and deflecting of blows, in 2004 you were going to lose (especially against other good players). IN Round 2, youre still going to lose...and you're going to get rocked while doing so. Don't really feel it takes away from the quality of the game.
