Yeah, really, I don't get it either. I borrowed their hits CD from someone last night and it didn't even have the one song I liked by them. I thought "I'd Stop the World To Melt With You" if that's even the name of it was like their one hit song. I know Manny, the resident music encyclopedia of the BBS, and Cure fan will enlighten us, however, as to what makes them good. Wont you, Manny?
Thats Modern English. The cure were a great band in the late 80's and early 90's. I don't think they deserve to be in this tournament but given that Manny is running this for some mystery poster thats just the way it is.
I just cant get into The Cure, I know a lot of people love them, the lead singer did a song with Blink-182 on their latest album which I thought was good, but cant really get into much of their stuff

the cure would be in my top 5 all time bands any day of the week. however, i choose to ignore anything after about 1990. not the same band that they were thru the 80's. if the greatest hits album was staring at the sea and you didnt like it im afraid i cant help you. however, if it was the more recent one than it has some 90's stuff on it, which isnt very good in comparison.

I got "The Cure - Greatest Hits". After reading the reviews on Amazon, I should have gotten "Staring At The Sea" instead. Its funny that Greatest Hits is worse by including their later music. You would think that over a 10 year period some of their newer stuff would be better than the older stuff.

They have influenced so many bands of today such as the Rapture, Interpol, Blink 182, 311, and many others. Obviously, you can make the argument that many (maybe all) of those bands are crap, but that is still a lot of bands. They along with the Smiths were one of the greatest post-punk bands of the '80s, well at least IMO. "Staring at the Sea" and "Disintegration" are the 2 Cure albums I would recommend to someone who is new to them. If you like those albums, I would then get all of their '80s stuff except for "The Top" (for diehards only). After "Wish", their stuff wasn't as good but that happens to a lot of bands like ZZ Top, AC/DC, Metallica, *gasp* Pink Floyd, etc. It is like these bands stay around too long. Maybe they shouldn't be in the tourney but A-Train and me made a deal - if Cake stays, then The Cure had to be in.
That's fine. Yes and Judas Priest should have been in along with many others, but the field is what it is. BTW - your vote does not count - it counts as an abstain.
