My all-time favorite female comedienne. Not the most PC person in the world. I just can't believe she's bangin' Jimmy Kimmel. Warning: audio NSFW and offensive http://2005.sxsw.com/video/movie_window.big.php?dir=2005_trailers&id=469&speed=hi
I still remember her routine on Conan where she used racial slurs against Asians... not cool in my book.
Probably not if she was asian, but black or hispanic, yes. Would if have bothered you if she used a racial slur against blacks or hispanics instead? Cuz thats probably why she opted for the asian joke.
Watch the video because she did use one and no, it didn't bother me. I really don't care when it's used in a comedic setting. I don't think anyone should get all in a huff about racial slurs used by anyone of any race when used in a comedic setting. I hear D&D beating on the door...
if it was someone other than a comedian I would care but she's a comedian so I view it with a different perspective sort of she's got an annoying voice, not really a fan
Not on national tv on Conan O'Brien she didn't. Could you imagine the backlash and protests if she used the N-word in that situation though? Forget about it... she'd have to move to another country. I'm not trying to be a tight ass, and some of the funniest jokes I've heard are racial, but I don't like it when its ok to do that to one group but not another, and its always mine that gets crapped on.
Hell yeah, I love Sara Silverman.... very underrated, she was one of the best writers that SNL ever had...
thats the double standard, it seems like it is okay to make fun of Asians or it was because the ugly b**** was scared to use some other slur.
I gotta admit I've found her hot since she did a guest spot on Star Trek Voyager. OK I'm a nerd I admit it! I never heard about her doing a racist joke about Asians. If someone has a link I would be curious to see it. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt because I do think she's an equal opportunity offender and not necessarily a racist or someone looking for cheap laughs at the expense of one particular group. Of course I could be biased because I'm attracted to her. As far as female comediens go I certainly find her funnier and better looking than Margaret Cho.
From what I gather, Silverman's defense of her "I hate/love chinks" joke is that she was "being ironic," i.e. trying to expose racism, not perpetuate it, similar to what Sacha Baron Cohen was doing when he, as Borat, sang the song "Throw The Jew Down The Well." The difficulty here is that in Cohen's case, once you come to know that he himself is Jewish, there is little doubt that he is being ironic. Silverman's case, on the other hand, is not so clear. I don't entirely understand the irony she was trying to convey, if any. If someone could explain it to me, please do so. Wish I could find a clip either of that Leno episode or that Politically Incorrect episode where she told/defended her joke. Maybe that would shed some light on it.
