http://www.casshern.com/ Has anyone else seen this? Someone posted the trailer on this board many months ago, and since it is just about the most awesome trailer I've ever seen, I just had to see it. The odd thing is, the trailer makes it out to be an action-thriller, while it's really an incredibly subtle, incredibly slow anti-war film. That said, it remains one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time, without doubt. I saw it for the first time probably 4 or 5 months ago, and I recently realized I had an urge, almost a need to watch this movie specifically, and that pretty much never happens with me. I don't remember any other time in my life when I felt a burning need to re-watch a specific movie. Sure, plenty of times I'll be in the mood for a comedy, or in the mood for a drama, but never a specific movie. So I just finished watching it again today, and damn... it's so complex I feel like I could get something new out of it every time I watch it, no matter how many times I do so. And if you haven't seen the trailer, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's crazy cool.
i just ordered it for my supervisor at work on Ebay in which he paid me back for it. I saw some pics, and the visual looks stunning. I'll probably borrow it from him when i get the chance.
yeah... i was wondering about this too. i think someone first posted it about it over a year ago. anyway, the american site sucks. apparently the movie was a hit over there in japan and will be making it's way here this year. imbd boards seem to give you more info about the movie. not really too many spoilers that you can understand. here they are.
I saw this movie on DVD in Japan, where it was a big hit. It is based on an old anime and is basically an anime movie done live-action style. The director is a music video director (husband of a very famous Japanese singer Utada Hikaru, he also directed a few of her music videos), and I have to say the movie felt very much like an MTV music video. The action scenes were sometimes good but mostly very motion-sickness inducing (lots of sudden cutting in and out with some anime thrown in to produce "special effects"). If you like "stylish" music video movies, then this may be for you. Also, if you are a huge anime fan, you might like it as well. I thought the acting was over the top, and the story-line at times bordered on comical in delivering its "message" on humanity (typical of many Japanese SF anime movies). All in all, I was quite disappointed with the movie, and I could honestly say that I wish I had my 2 hours back. I thought the trailers were cool, and the concept was nice, but the execution was lacking (might be fine if you suffer from MTV attention deficit disorder). Just my thoughts...
indeed, beware, i thought the movie sucked as well. The storyline is ... well, pretty much crap. Effects are ok i guess, kinda cartoony. It's bad enough that a lurker like me must post about it.
