I think this could be the best thing to happen to them right now ... now that added pressure of the undefeated season will be gone in the tourney
How does an undefeated season add pressure in the NCAA tournament...? At that point, you absolutely have to win every single game whether you're unbeaten or not.
Pressure coming from media and other sources will be less. Less people now will focus on them since they have a loss. Not saying its a good thing, but I think there will be less pressure.
Great game. Ohio State is very lucky to have a coach the caliber of Thad Matta. He took a team which was pretty poor last year to a team which would be bubble team for the NCAA this year (would probably need 2 wins in teh Big 10 torny to get in). The bad thing is Coach Matta has never signed a contract with OSU (still going thru the attorneys) so if the NCAA would slap OSU with additional sanctions he could leave. But great game, really teh first time Value City Arena has been that loud.
are F'ing kidding me. i know osu doesn't suck, but why did it have to end against a non-top notch team, in the last game of the regular season. and by 1 damn point in a game they were leading big apparently. this sucks. i wanted to see someone with a real shot at the undefeated season. oh well.
i just saw the highlights. you mean they lost on a 3 with 7 seconds left? now it seems even crappier that they lost. especially a 3 when up 2. but i guess that's how upsets work.
They asked Matta after the game why he went for 3 instead of 2 and forcing OT: "We're not very good in OT" That may go down in OSU sports history with Woody Hayes saying "Because I couldn't go for 3" when he went for a 2 point conversion late in a blow out game vs. Michigan.
because i couldn't go for 3 has always been one of my favorite sports quotes. sums up rivalries so well.
i like illinois..i like dee brown...but i think if they end up matched up against a UConn or some team with skilled big men in the tourney, they're gonna be in trouble.
Last weekend certainly was "upset weekend"...can't wait to see the bracket this year. Texas looks like a lock after what they did to OkState. I didn't feel Illinois would stay unbeaten, nor do I think they will get past the sweet 16. I'm digging North Carolina, Arizona, and Gonzaga in this year's bracket. Gotta keep an eye on it...a former coworker and I bet a sushi/sake dinner on the bracket every year.
