UNC turned the ball over so many times. I kept flipping back and forth between that game and the Rox game but my interest weakened with the turnovers and poor shooting for the most part. I checked the recap later to see that Duke won by one - 71-70. Imho, UNC was/is the more talented side but they just were not able to put a complete game together. McCants (the next Vince Carter imo) did not live up to the hype in this game. But in all, I still expect UNC and my Kentucky wildcard to make it to the final four.
Pretty much agree. Duke had 17 steals... can't do that and expect to win. Not to mention, UNC played at Duke, probably the hardest place in college to come in and win at. It's amazing how year after year, no matter how good one squad is, it is ALWAYS a close game. Duke would go up by 9 with 3 to play, but you just KNEW UNC would make a run. Fun game to watch.
I'm a HUGE Duke fan so that was a big deal to me.....that 18 second defensive stand to win the game was aswome......now if I could just get my hands on a clip of that to download onto my computer
well, to be honest, I was surprised that it was even close. I didn't think we were going to be good this year, but hey, I guess that's why Coach K is the best in the biz right now. I think it will be close again at the Deaner, but I love the close games against UNC, they are so much more enjoyable to watch. 2 Favorite signs from last night: "SEAN MAY ATE ALL OUR COOKIES" and my personal favorite forever: "CAROLINA BLUE IS JUST PAST TENSE FOR CAROLINA BLOWS!" HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
I love how ESPN used this game to ask the question "Is UNC overrated?". Let's see. They played their biggest rival, the #6 team in the nation, on the road, and played them to within a bucket. Sounds about right to me. I can't wait for the game in Chapel Hill.
It doesn't matter how good one team is anymore, it's always a close game. I guess that's what makes it so fun
Speaking of Duke, what do you guys think about J.J. Redick's chances in the NBA. Here's an article about how he's improved his game this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=1989222 I've seen some mock drafts that have this kid going in the second round in 2006. At the very least he's a great shooter, so I'd definitely take a flyer on him if he was available in the 2nd round. And if he does continue to improve on his defense, he might be worth a 1st rounder, especially considering how good the Rox look when the perimeter shooters are hitting their shots.
JJ Redick is one cocky S.O.B. I thought it "my defensive play was so great at the end of the game" interview was quite refreshing in this day of selfless players.
Yeah... I'm not a fan, but it's biased He's a shooter, so he should stick somewhere in the league, but he will never be a big contributor. Enjoy it while you can, JJ
Time to bring this back up... Duke at UNC this Sunday, UNC will be playing for the ACC conference championship. Should be a good one, as they always are. Anyone else excited?
as probablly the lone Duke fan on this board, I am excited to see the game Sunday afternoon. However, I am a little bit fearful. UNC has more depth, more talent, and an excellent coach. Oh yeah, and it's also senior day, so you know emotions are going to be running high at Chapel Hill. I just want a good, fun, hard fought game (with a Duke W of course!).
Nah, I'm a former season ticket holder from the dawn of Coach K's era at Duke. My ex-wife was in grad school. I live in Wake Forest's backyard but I've never been able to convert my loyalty to Wake. Riddle me this: why has Duke not managed to have any depth for the last 5 or more years?
you know, I've been wondering the same thing for a while too. Everyone talks about how Duke is supposed to be great because of this class they always get. But 1 or 2 guys isn't going to give you depth. The year they won the Nat'l Champ., they had a 7 man rotation (and actually, Boozer was coming off the bench due to that foot injury). Lately, the loss of Deng and Livingston really hurt us this year. I think if we had those 2 guys, they'd be no stopping us. Just my opinoin. I don't know for certain, but I belive Duke has 3 STUDS coming in, and one of them is a big, big boy. As long as no one jumps ship on us, then the only significant loss is Ewing. I think we'd have a good run at that point then.
To my recollection, Elton Brand was the first Duke sophomore to jump to the NBA. I think that year they lost Brand, Magette, Langdon, and Avery in the first round. Seems like ever since that year depth has been a problem. Whatever happened to that kid Michael Thompson (?) that was supposed to be the twin tower with Shelden Williams?
transfered to Northwestern. Why? I dunno. At least we know that he is a smart kid, (Duke and Northwestern are top notch acedmic schools).
That depth issue came up to bite Duke in the behind. Shavlike Randolph fouls out and there's no size to take his place. Where's Eric Meek or Cherokee Parks when you need them? Hell I'd take Casey Saunders.
