my bloody valentines loveless is album you should check out. in my opinion its the greatest album ever made. its not really "mainstream" music (for lack of a better description). however, if you enjoy the british alt-rock from the early 90's than this might be for you. if you remember 120 minutes than this might be for you. i guess its regarded as the pinnacle of the "shoegazer" movement, which was mostly pasty english bands doing lots of drugs and making very etheral, dreamy yet sometimes very loud music with lots of guitar effects and incomprehensible vocals. loveless is probably the most layered and textured record you will ever hear. some tracks have up to 30 guitar tracks and vocal tracks. billy corgan applied this recording technique to siamese dream with some pretty good effects (at least with the guitars). all the beats are actually loops of the real drummer playing, so rhythmically some of it almost has a dance or house sound. alright, all this talk about the record...im going to go listen to it now!

I think Ride's "Nowhere" was better than "Loveless". I like MBVm but to me they were just Dinosaur Jr with fancier recordings.
that is one reunion i never thought would happen. i guess if the pixies can reunite than they can too. and dan, i like ride alot too. nowhere is definately up there for me. to me ride was like the who of shoegazing. there were alot of really good bands that all came up in that era...mbv, ride, lush, chapterhouse, slowdive, pale saints, curve, cocteau twins (maybe the 1st shoegazer band?)
