CD to retire this summer? According to Chad Ford, our favorite ESPN Insider... A number of other NBA luminaries might voluntarily give up their jobs at the end of the season. The Mavericks' Don Nelson claims he's stepping down, which means that you can probably count the Mavericks in on the Phil Jackson sweepstakes. Pistons head coach Larry Brown flirts with retirement and/or relocation on the hour. There's also a chance the Grizzlies' Jerry West and the Rockets' Carroll Dawson will retire.
isn't avery johnson a guaranteed replacement when nelly retires in dallas? i didn't like it when hunsicker retired, i won't like it when CD retires.. new GM's don't have the connections the experienced ones do.
didn't Chad Ford also write that the Rockets give the Knicks a first round pick in exchange for CD staying on as the GM next year CHAD FORD MUST DIE !
I heard when JVG stepped in, CD was ready to retire, and JVG convinced him to stay a couple of more years. I dont know how much CD is still involved with his actual job, but it sounds to me like JVG just wanted a fall guy to keep around. I wouldnt doubt if this was true.
I would not be surprised Cd's extention i believe was for the first 2 years of JVG's tenure as rockets head coach. He was going to retire before we hired JVG when we did jeff asked him to stay and help build the team and he signed for 2 more years.
Based on what? Your inside knowledge of JVG and his pure evil? The fact that you know that CD does nothing and he's getting paid to sit around and have his name mentioned in things?
CD finds ways to bring in the guys that the coaches want. He did it for Rudy, he is doing it for JVG. JVG asks him for particular players and CD does the negotiations and the cba math.
This is what I think really happens. It's not like CD ups and spits out players he can get and then goes after them with JVG or Rudy sitting in the background thinking "I wonder who he's going to get for me that I'll have to fit in this time?" The coaches have their wish lists and CD tries to run with that. Ultimately I can't believe the coach isn't at least 60-75% the reason a player is brought onto the team.
It helps too being that CD was once a coach. So he has been in their shoes and it help their relationship a whole lot.
With his father/son type relationship with Yao, I've oftened wondered if he is just around staying long enough to make sure Yao signs his extension with us. I know I will miss him when he's gone(great guy), and hope we can find another gm of equally high character.
