That makes sense. I think it's tough for Yao to handle all the stuff in a totally different world in his first year, but Yao did a pretty good job and finally conquerd many trouble. Now he could say that he can think in two different languages and speak them out. That was great.
If you look at the players with the highest Field Goal percentage... Yao is now third behind Shaq, and Amare-- And Yao doesn't have the advantage of having a great point guard like Shaq has w/ D.Wade, and Amare does with Nash. That's pretty impressive if you ask me....
generalthade_03, Anybody who still things Yao is the Chinese Jesus Christ needs to watch the game against the Jazz. The boy still has lots to learn before we get a ring. We do have all the pieces EXCEPT YAO to win a ring. We now have depth, a very good guard rotation. But Yao is a enigmatic as the Forbiden City. I am not a Yao Hater, you giant douche bag. That's like saying I hate America because I think Bush is a lying POS. Get off the wood, you're no good. -P1st, S2nd
I think Yao is playing very well and has the chance to be truly great but for this season I don't think squeezing 5 more minutes out of him would improve us as much as some people think. The reason is the play of Dikembe Mutombo. Look at the amount of production we have received from Deke. Per 48 minutes Deke 13.8 pts, 15.5 REB 3.8 BLK Those are very productive minutes from your backup center and Deke is really helping us not feel the full sting of Yao's frequent foul trouble. There is still a major scoring threat missing when Yao is out but Deke brings more to the floor in rebounding and probably interior defense which isn't bad for your #2. I agree though that in the coming years it will be even more important for Yao to get more minutes since he is bound to get even better and our backup center spot is bound to get worse. For now though I think the room for improvement might be less than alot of people estimate since Deke is playing so well.
Great post twoniner. Welcome to the board. I agree, if Yao plays more minutes, they will probably be less effective minutes and I love seeing Deke out there. We've got to take advantage of our strengths and Deke is a huge advantage we have over every other team in the league. He's easily the best backup center in the league and could probably start for just about any other team in the league (minus five or six). I'd much rather see Yao improve his performance by improving in the minutes he's given, than improve his numbers by playing more minutes and decreasing Deke's minutes (thus subtracting by addition). The goal is for the team to win, not Yao's numbers to be better and although it would be nice to see him score and rebound more it needs to happen in the minutes that he is playing not by adding more and taking away "Two ticca's" minutes. Now if JVG would ever play them at the same time and it didn't affect Deke's minutes, then I'm all for it, but don't cut Cookie Monster's time on the court.
Rebounding is Tiring! Yao needs a strong rebounder on his side to help increase his minutes. If JVG can get his hands on a legit PF I think that solves a lot of this team's problems. I mean, let's face it, there's a reason why our 7 footer can't seem to grab double digit rebounds every night. It's b/c opposing teams have two pairs of rebounding hands for our one. Get a rebounder and Yao's stamina will flourish... Else, maybe it's time for Yao to lay off those fried dough sticks for breakfast. theSAGE
