They are showing the championship game that inspired the movie "Hoosiers". 1954 H.S. Basketball Championship between Milan and Muncie. A couple of things standout. The fact they have the tape of this entire game. There are more people in the stands than today's Rockets game. There are also other things that a couple of players from the game are discussing. One they mentioned is Norman Dale was in his twenties and married. Another thing is that the entire Muncie team isn't black. I think they were all black in the movie but its an integrated team.
Look for #4 (I think): Ronnie Truitt-- longtime Houston area basketball coach. He is playing Right Forward most of the time. Ronnie coached CyFair to a state 4A championship in 1971. He passed away many years ago. Ronnie was one of my youth swim coaches and his and my HS were in the same district. We lost to them in a 6 OT game. I was the next guy off the bench for my team...
Is it just me or is that the most ugliest game you have ever seen? Is like watching team of Moochies throwing up bricks.
They showed it last year about this time, on a Saturday afternoon. Nice as a novelty, but I'm not watching that again ...
It's pretty fascinating to watch, especially when Milan takes the air out of the ball in the second half. The weirdest thing of all is how Muncie didn't even bother to exploit their size advantage by pounding it inside. They had hit those long range shots all year, so I guess they figured they would be able to hit them in that one.
