    Do you think he is better than Magic on TNT?

    If you have been watching TNT you would know that David Aldridge has been filling in when Magic isnt there... I think that David has been doing a better job than when Magic is there, I feel that David knows what teams are doing behind the doors and also knows the game inside and out...

    David Aldrige is class.

    Compare him to

    Kenny Smith

    Tim Legler

    Greg Anthony

    Charles Barkley

    Stephen A Smith

    Can we go any lower?

    DA is a great reporter who does know a lot of inside info as well as good oncourt knowledge as well. Whats gets to me about Magic is that everything he says somehow evolves back into something about the Lakers. I also thought he'd bring some good insight into the game being the best pg (imo) to play the game but he hasnt impressed me thus far

    ESPN thought it would be easier to clean up "street cred" Stephen A. "Let's Trade Shaq to the Knicks" Smith than to get David Aldridge to go hip-hop. Sorry, but that's the way it was. And a mistake at that.

    ? Stephan A is the only one I can't stand out of those listed, and even he's gotten the message to tone things down. Barkley's just there as comic relief, not really for insight.

    Magic really was a waste of space. He's Magic, but he offered nothing of any value as far as I've seen, except for the one time when he talked about Kobe and what he needed to do to rehab his image. That was it.

    David A is awesome though, being one of the most informed guys in the business. And yet Chad Ford is the "insider"

    DA was great! They need someone up there that REALLY understands what teams are doing in terms of player personnel.

    Case in point. When they were talking about the Glen Robinson for Rogers/Mashburn deal BARKLEY was saying that that was a good move for the 76ers. That Rogers will be able to help out a lot with shooting the 3. And Mashburn might also.......DA interrupted to say kind of laughing that Mashburn is going to retire. LOL!

    oops. catch up Barkley! Classic!

    I like Barkley, but all he gives are just opinions. Just like SAS. I dont want opinions, I want ANALYSIS. Save the opinions for Around the Horn. That's why it was nice to have DA up there. Ditto for ESPN guys like Greg Anthony or Legler. They bring ANALYSIS. It might not be "entertaining" but it is "informative." I am looking for informative. I dont care if the delivery is DRY.

    from a knowledgeable fan's standpoint maybe.

    from a business perspective no. the NBA is for the masses, who know Magic. Magic also has more charisma than DA for people who don't know either.

    Well, I'm the kind that enjoys both - but the key is, it needs to be an informed opinion.

    It's great to hear 'such and such' is happening, but it can be highly insightful when someone can color that by talking about intangibles that go beyond what's taking place.

    -->For example:
    info: Kings trade Webber for KT, CW, BS.
    public reaction: omg! why?
    informed opinion: it looks like a crazy trade, but the Kings feel that good locker room chemistry and more role players instead of stars are what they need.

    That sort of thing is what I personally like. But you're dead on about opinions when they don't come from an informed source. That's just worthless. I was listening to talk radio last night on XM while driving around, and a couple of the hosts were running their mouths with incorrect info (still saying we sent a #1 with MoT, etc) and supplying nothing more than one-liners and knee jerk reactions. That's just a waste of time.

    BTW, on ESPNews when SAS was asked about the Nzar/Rose trade, SAS went on to say it was a GREAT trade for the Knicks. He said "whenever you get a chance to get a player like Rose, you do it. He is a good defensive player and a spark plug off the bench and has championship experience."

    That's what he said. SAS of course didnt mention the REAL reason the trade was done which was for those 1st round picks. And then for him to pub Rose like that is ridiculous! Rose brings them NOTHING that Nzar doesnt right now. And he is shorter. Hilarious stuff from SAS..."but I regress". ;)

    Magic is horrible. A three day old bagel would be better.

    The only thing that saves Magic is his chemistry with Charles and Kenny. It gives the show more of a barbershop feel, as opposed to the Sportscenter coked-up over the top vibe that I can't take anymore.

    But DA is money. I think platooning the two is probably a good idea. DA is a better host, but Magic can be VERY entertaining.

    magic - one of greatest players in nba history

    magic - one of the worst television personalities of all time...the man is cocky, condescending, and just flat-out annoying on camera.

    Does anyone know where you can get old episodes of "The Magic Hour"? Was there ever a more uncomfortable hour on TV. For host, guests, house band, in-studio audience, TV viewers.

    That was awesome

    DA is pretty good. I don't mind Magic nearly as much as others seem to though.

    But - IMO - EJ, Kenny and Chuck are the BEST pregame / postgame show team of any sport. They have great chemistry - and I think the commentary and analysis is pretty darn good. (I don't always agree with them - especially Chuck).
